It must be a very special GMCMH as it is listed as being RWD!!!

Geez, so many of these would be great values if they had Alcoa's and new tires. Otherwise you are looking at an approx $2800 hit right out of the box. As always it is a "pay now or pay later" situation.

Yes it might be $2800 to get the wheels and tyres but those are simple bolt on parts requiring little time.........I'd rather do that than have those on a coach and have weeks/months of work fixing
long term water damage because its been sitting out in the weather for a few years.......

Very interesting that this tire situation always comes up.
Some of you might remember that I was following a GMC Motorhome in England, and while doing my research, I found out that in England tires to suit the 16.5 inch rims are still available.
They are made by Cooper Tires which is an American Brand that just recently swallowed Avon Tyres - The standard tire brand for Rolls Royce and Bentley for generations.
I don't think these 16.5 inch tires are available outside of England, since I've heard of people having issues finding 16.5 inch tires in Germany.
Hard to believe they're hard to come by in the U.S.

One of the major reasons that they are difficult to get in the ISA was because when 16 inch started to be used in place of 16-1/2 inch there were several deaths in tire shops from workers putting 16" on 16-1/2" rims.

Another reason was due to UPS using the majority of the 16-1/2" tires being produced on their brown delivery trucks. When UPS replaced those trucks with ones using 16" rims most major tire manufacturers stopped producing 16-1/2" tires as their major customer disappeared.

Prices went up and availability went down.

I paid quite a bit more for mine and it wasn't/isn't as nice!

If I were interested, I'd take up the offer to go inspect it!

Alcoa's would be nice but when I had received my coach it only had 2 Alcoa wheels and the rears were 16.5's so yes right out the box I spent 800.00 bucks just to replace the four 16.5's. That is alot cheaper than purchasing 4 new Alcoa's and tires at this time.

Inspected the coach today. It has been stored under cover for the last 20 years. Needs to be power washed, but the paint looked good. The interior is OEM (green plaid) and is in very good condition. Not much money to be spent there. Would be good if you wanted to do a "stock" GMC. the headliner has been replaced with luan plywood.
The current owner (20 years) has a mechanical bent. He was working on the engine when I showed up. Put in a new distr and she purred like the big block she is. Exhaust sounded solid. Air bags are in very good shape. As it was on blocks, keeping the wheels off the ground, I did not see it move, but that should not be a problem.
The Onan looked very clean. Owner has used it as a back-up generator during storms.
The only downside. It needs new tires, like right now. Has 16.5" wheels, so there is a major concern about buying 16.5" tires, or buying 16" wheels and 16" tires. I would hope that the tires would make it to the nearest tire shop capable of doing the work, and not much further.
Front windshields did not appear to be fogged, but they really were dusty.
overhead A/C's both work, but the interior plastic is very yellow, and you would want to replace those parts.
I think that the price is very fair ($5K), and for another $3K, you would have a running safe coach. I took a few photos, but the Craig's list ad had a good collection of them. I cannot own 2.

Tom, thanks for checking it out.

Speaking to CFO tonight and if she is in, we might have found our Coach.......a 78, good white paint and the right internal layout.

First thing would be be set of 16" alloy wheels and Tyres......then slow and careful trip to either Bounds or the Guy in Georgia for brakes and fuel system upgrades.

We are in England and we could not find 16.5" tyres through our normal distributors. We ended up buying them from Tire Rack - I think they came from Canada. Cost was $967 for 6 pieces delivered to Long Beach CA where we had a UK bound container being loaded with other stuff.
