Hello,

My onan 6k which ran well last season this season developed a hunt. After a quick spray down of the carb it is now at the point whew it will only run choked. I mean fully choked. The funny thing is it actually runs okay choked with enough grunt to power the main AC.

Still I can't leave it this way. It looks like a carb issue to me. Anyone run into something similar?

I would suggest that you pull the high speed jet from the bottom side of the float bowl. You'll likely find that the "o" ring if damaged or worn and allowing too much air in.

The original is not round but It can be replaced with a round one which has 1/8" ID and 1/4" OD.

Set the initial to 1-1/2 turns from closed and adjust it for best running.

I carry several of these o rings with me and have replaced at least a couple dozen at rallies to fix Onans with the problem you describe.

Emery,

Thanks, just to clarify do you mean the gasket on the bowl retaining bolt or is there another one on the jet?

Dan.

When you pull the jet you will see a small o ring on the jet. The gasket on the bowl retaining bolt is much, much larger than 1/4’ OD.

You can find that o rings at auto parts stores, ACE hardware, etc.

Definitely a vacuum leak. Like the bolts that hold the carb on were loosening and the carb was bouncing around, then part of the gasket wore off and it is sucking a constant amount of air now.
