I'm having an issue with choke on my onan. When the starter is engaged, the choke closes, but when the engine catches, and the starter is released the choke goes back to full open and the engine dies. To keep it running I have to manually hold it open to keep it running.

Is there something that I can do to test the choke and adjust it? I think I read that there is a bimetal strip in the choke that should hold it partially closed when cold and open the choke as it warms up. It seems like that may be where the issue is.

It worked fine last week. I have since had a muffler installed. I am wondering if welding on the exhaust pipe could have damaged the bimetal strip. If that is the case, would it be possible to re adjust the bimetal strip.

Thanks for your help,

John
