Hi Dolph,

These Tesla Powerwall batteries are designed for wall mount inside or outside. They just have to be kept upright for the built in cooling process. While the chemistry may be similar (I don’t know that), these Tesla units are engineered by some of the best of todays battery power folks while the great pioneering work the Technomadia fellow did was home built from then available components hand soldered together. Time will tell if these Tesla powerwall units loose capacity as the years go by or when used in outside applications, but the engineers have had thousands of bites at the apple and years of experience designing around the limitations of battery technology.

All interesting stuff for us to ponder. I should point out that installing something like the Tesla Powerwall in our GMC would be a task best left to only the most experienced high voltage techs. Those batteries are connected so as to produce 400 to 500 volts, more than enough to fry you if you get your pinkies in the wrong place. That high voltage is on purpose to keep the amperage down low so the connectors internally and externally can be smaller and less expensive than would be required for a low voltage, high amperage design. That is one of the reasons Tesla will only sell to certified professional installers.

Temperature is a problem for these cells. Mounting them inside is a huge difference as opposed to the temperature tolerant cells they use in automobiles

On the Tesla automobile, the fans will engage when the car is just sitting to keep them cool when the outside temperature rises.
