Morning list,

I've lost the cap that closes the sewer outlet. Bought the one that is
available at Walmart (Camco Sewer Cap), but that does not fit over my
GMC's outlet. Do I have a specific pipe, or do others need a big cap as
well? And if mine is not special, what do I need to look for?

Any all help/URL is greatly appreciated.

Walmart may be a cheaper source of RV stuff but they only have a limited
selection. If you are in Farmville find a local good sized RV dealer/parts
house. Richmond has quite a few that I recall. Take your GMC to that dealer
and have one of their sales/tech reps. point out the one that you need before
you buy. Their prices will be reasonable and you will pick up some good advice.

Hello jim,

Walmart of course was my sample. If I can't find a suitable replacement
online, I will go the "pick a local shop" route ... in Summer when I am
back at the GMC.

I just wonder if the PO did some changes to the sewer outlet, or if it
is original. The outlet is at driver's side, next to the bumper, and
another GMC I looked at (with a macerator) had the outlet in the middle
of the coach/bumper.

Those POs can trip you up a lot. After loosing a good number of sewer
caps I connected one to the coach with an "idiot string" so it was
harder to lose. ...... but not impossible. I do it to gas caps too.

Peer,

Your dump has been modified, but that is not your problem. The problem is that your dump bayonet flange and cap are still original. They were made by Thetford. (Story to follow.) Call RV places and ask if they have a Thetford cap. They will know what this means. This also means that the fitting for your dump hose is Thetford and others available may not fit that flange. All Thetford fittings and valves are white.

As said, your dump plumbing has been modified, it originally it came out the center. When these coaches were built, there was no campground standard of "services on the left". Dumps available were about equally right and left, so GM put the dump in the center.

Promised Story:
Thetford was the first in the RV waste business with successful and serviceable equipment. There were others, but they did not have a complete line. Frank Sargent (recently deceased) was no dummy - that way - and he set up very good patent coverage. Problem: RV demand grew and Thetford was not watching. Others had a moved into the market but to do so, they had to be careful of the exiting patents. Competition came from Bristol immediately, then Monogram, Camco and Valtera moved in and since they could not make parts compatible with Thetfords until about the early 80s, they didn't. They made a complete line and were much more responsive to client requests than Thetford had ever been. Thetford once owned the the RV market and still has a place, but they are still losing share in their home market. Valtera parts are available everywhere and Thetford only from specialty RV suppliers.

Peer,

I have no idea if it is original or not as I have no experience on GMC outfitted coaches.

I do have one suggestion for you and that is inspect all the plumbing carefully and make any and all modifications to it BEFORE it
leaves the USA. The reason being is that the GMC was built with American plumbing fittings which are in inches. All the drain
plumbing in Australia is metric and it will not connect to the inch stuff. I assume Germany / Europe is the same.

Regards,
Rob M.

Well, I am in possession of a white fitting. It looks like it is made to have a 3 inch 'slinky' hose affixed to it, perhaps with a hose clamp. It has two female ears to twist lock onto something with two opposed pins. Marked CP24630 MADE IN TAIWAN.
If it is of use to anyone, it's yours for postage.
