Rob,

While emergency vehicle drivers have the right-of-way at intersections, my
observation is that they compensate for the risk that the intersection is
not clear by slowing enough to try to avoid a collision. I have on more than
one occasion avoided an accident at an intersection where I had the
right-of-way by mimicking emergency vehicle drivers' practices. 'Requires,
however, being alert to following vehicles' rate-of-closure and start
slowing early enough to give them time to react...

Fred,

I slow down as well and my vision goes into "wide angle" as I approach an intersection, I begin looking left and right to see if any
vehicle is approaching. If I see one I assume they don't see me and therefore are NOT going to stop whether there is a stop sign,
red light, whatever.

Regards,
Rob M.
