I can't find any reference to the heater core water shut-off valve in the Interchange manual. I might be looking right at it. Any suggestions on interchange parts? And no, I don't care about opinions on manual valves or any of that stuff.

Bob,

I replaced mine last year but I can't remember where I got it.

I did a Google search and I believe I installed an Everco Heater Control valve from AutoZone, however, I don't know if it was a part
number 5970 or 74865. The AutoZone website does not say that it OD of the connections are.

IIRC the OEM valve is spring loaded to the closed position vacuum opens it up.

It defaults to open so defroster will work and not cause crash. Max and/or cold selector applies vac to shut off hot coolant (If I have this backwards, I'm loosin' it Smile)

John,
FWIW, I was at Sirim's a month ago and spotted a box full of Powermasters...that is....if you are still looking for them.

In the GMCMI Spring 2014 Parts Interchange Index it is in the section Heater & Air Cond. and it is called a Heater Temperature Valve. Its on page 23. There are 7 parts listed in addition to the original GM parts number.

That might be right, but I thought of it backwards. Down here where the heat and humidity are the bane of existence, I thought its unactivated (and failure mode) state would be closed...

I thought that would be it but when I brought up the Napa numbers, I got the vacuum selector in the dash control. I stopped at that point but should check the rest.

John,

Oh oh! I may have screwed up by installing the valve I did! I have received a private email noting the same thing!

Do not follow my lead and install one of the AutoZone valves I listed as I don't know if it is spring loaded open or closed and I
can't check as I am in Sydney and Double Trouble is in Humble.

If someone could get their hands on one at an AutoZone store and compare it to the OEM that would be great!

I apologize for misleading everyone!

Regards,
Rob M.

From what I can tell, the valve is right but you are wrong Smile Checker sells the same unit and has a better description on line. I think almost all units default to open with no vacuum. Thanks for the info Rob.

As for a heater core shut off valve this is what I use to shut off coolant flow during the summer.

Bob this same valve is used on other GM cars. One is the 80's Turbo Regals. My friend Glen has them at Www.highwaystars.net. Genuine ACDelco.

The last time I replaced mine (maybe 10 years ago) I took what was on it and had a guy at Autozone rummage around to find one with the same size and configuration of the hose fittings. I recall it was off a Ford. These days hardly anyone behind the counter will do that anymore so I thought I'd try to get a head start Smile
