G'day,
I have posted 21 photographs of the SeaFlo Macerator I recently purchased. I don't have the time right now to add comments under
each photo, however, if you compare it to the Jabsco Macerator I have posted I think you will find that is as good a unit if not
BETTER!
SeaFlo: http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6769-seaflo-macerator.html
Jabsco: http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6005-macerator-innards.html
Unfortunately the other macerator I have here in Sydney is not a Jabsco so there's no point in tearing it down to a side by side
comparison; that will have to wait until I get back to the USA this fall.

PS - Bob tearing this unit down "for the hell of it" qualifies as something a Lunar Nut Case would do! ;-)

Hey, Lunar Nut Case,
I never did see the part that would most concern me, performance-wise, for
the SeaFlo: the chopper blade.

Ken,
There is two of them and they are on either side of the armature shaft in this photo:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/seaflo-macerator/p57717-seaflo-1.html
They sit back to back and form an H kinda sorta, they are nasty little buggers which I'm sure will chop the s#!t up very well as
they are sharpened to a knife edge!
I'll start working on the comments tomorrow which will clarify a lot.
Regards,
Rob M.

Nasty looking little boogers compared to the "paddles" in the Jabsco,
aren't they? But then, I've never overwhelmed those.

Rob:
Are the parts interchangeable with the Jabsco macerator (in the best Chinese copy-cat tradition)?
It’s not short term memory - it’s the kid at Christmas in you coming back.
The next phase of this is playing with the box, and ignoring the contents!
Cheers!

WIth the repair kit alone for the Jabsco costing $50 from Amazon, the
SeaFlo sounds like a particularly good deal.
http://www.amazon.com/Jabsco-Self-Priming-Sealed-Macerator-Service/dp/B0000AY7W8
I'm about to install the long-held repair kit in my spare Jabsco; I'll
probably order a SeaFlo as the new spare.
I must say that i don't see any need for the "Quick Change Unit": A 3"
hose or rubber pipe coupling will attach to the "standard" version with a
hose clamp, making installation/change about as easy as "twist on/off",
with less likelihood of leaking. And a simple U-bracket with no need for
hinges will work since no twisting of the pump is necessary.

The housing of the SeaFlo sure looks identical to the "Trac T10069". Right down to the little "dimple" between the label and the outlet.
http://www.amazon.ca/Trac-T10069-13-GPM-Macerator-Pump/dp/B00BKN8VYS
http://danardmarine.com/product-info.php?pid189.html
It appears like the same device. It looks like the housing is held on with 4 bolts - so it can be rotated for upside down mounting (like I've read will help). I may order the Trac (or two) and see how it is.

Total cost won't be $24 more! Shipping and border fees kill most deals from Amazon.com on my side of the border... I do have a US shipping address, but it's a slow option, so I generally don't use it.
In this case - they won't ship the $53 SeaFlo to a Canadian address and if they would, shipping would be $15-$20 USD. Once a US shipment makes it here - there is minimally a $7 brokerage charge, plus tax (adding up to another $10-$15 USD).
From Amazon.ca - I can ship free and also have a tax exempt shipping address. So - $91 is what I pay...
If I wasn't on an island - it *may* be slightly cheaper to ship to a US border town and "smuggle" it across. But if a person was to follow the law, it should be declared at the border and taxes paid in that case, as well...
Crystal clear!

Rob,
Got it!
It cost me $54 to have the SeaFlo shipped to Sydney, however, since it was under the Customs charge limit there was no duty or GST
and since I had them send it via USPS there were no customs clearance fees.
Do Canadians have to declare and pay duties and taxes on everything that they cross the US - Canadian border with? There is no duty
/ tax free threshold?
Regards,
Rob M.
