My local GMC search has come up with a couple of good candidates - a 76 Eleganza and 77 Kingsley. Units are comparable in almost all respects, but I'm curious about the trim levels. From the publication literature on bdub's site, the Kingsley was a $260 up charge over the Eleganza. The only difference I've seen (outside of the obvious color differences) walking thru a few examples of each is the cabinet doors - louvered wood on the Kingsley, thermofused (or similar laminated process) on the Eleganza. Are the doors the sole reason for the trim up charge or is there something I'm missing? The glossy marketing material on his site pretty much says the same thing for every model, just with different pictures.
Between 76 and 77, the only change I've seen is the rear suspension, from Power Level to Electra Level. Anything else?
Really enjoy the forum and looking forward to contributing as an owner soon!

The differences apparently vary by year. The later Eleganza's had Oak doors and the 78 Kingsley's had the same oak doors and not louvered. 1977 was another transition year with different AC systems and of course the 403 vs 455. So if you look at a 77, you could have 2 very different models. My friend has a 78 Kingsley and the only differences we can find between the Eleganza is the orange vs gold upholstery. Everything else is identical. There were also changes to the bumper mountings, side louvers, and the EL II suspension during the 77 to 78 range.

My early 75 Eleganza has the "pressed wood" doors. I sure wish they were the oak versions though.

Late 76 had the Electro Level I with the control switches on the lower dash. Early had the Power Level.
Late 77 had the 403 ci. engine. Early had the 455 ci.

Good point Hal. I double checked my pics and vin, both are early additions for its year. Power level dials on the 76 and the big engine on the 77. Waiting to hear from sellers of each when the coach is ready for a functional test. Leaning towards the Eleganza for the more neutral interior and some of the updates that have been made. Either one is a fairly solid choice though. Nice to have options!
