After replacing my upper hose after rubbing through it last weekend I decided to replace my 160 thermostat with a 195. Regardless of all the analyses a few weeks ago, I can now say that my fan clutch is on more now than it was before. So here we go guys, two trials with two different outcomes. BTW, the interchange book upper hose looks nothing like the original, but it offers a much better routing that will never sag on the alternator belt. Kudos to who ever found it!

Bob,

What is the hose number, in the interchange book? I am forever snugging my hose up with wire ties and have a plastic protector thingy on it but one of these days I will be an unhappy man... and of course, that means Ruth will be sitting on the bed, escape reading and asking if I can fix it. *smile* (She never has complained but she sure is burning through her book when we are beside the road, unless I need things handed to me.)

Thanks for the new analysis. I have a 180 in a box and am toying with getting rid of my 195. Luckily this is America and we can put what we want in our coach. Hey, maybe I won't have to add a quart of oil every 350 miles! A man can dream, can't he?

George,

Bob has a 403 so I'm not exactly sure what the problem is with that engine.

I noticed that the upper radiator hose in the 455 powered Avion was resting on the driver side upper radiator shroud support. I took
an old radiator hose and cut a section about 3 inches long, split it, then wrapped it around the upper radiator hose where it came
in contact with the support and tie wrapped it in place. That was in 2008 and every so often I check the "doubler" for wear and its
fine.

I used the Gates 20869 that crosses with various other suppliers including Napa.

I'm not sure if it is unique to the 403 but it is a well known issue with the original hose. I have watched the clearance ever since I've had the coach and the one time I got lazy, it sagged far enough to rub through.
