I have a 1978 Kingsley with the original gas appliances. When I turn on
the LP is the any pilot lights that need to be lit first.
I have had the unit for a couple of months but have not had the weather to
use it yet,.

Yes, gas WOULD come through, and that's the potential problem. My stove has a valve under the top plate that turns gas to the STOVE pilot lights on or off.

The original stoves do have pilot lights. You can choose to light the pilot light that is located in the center of the burners. It can burn continuously and you an choose to use the pilot and just turn on the burners for them to light. Or, you can turn off the gas to the pilot and light the burners as you use them with a match.
The oven has a pilot light that must be lit to use the oven. The oven control has a Pilot Off position that must be used or gas will flow to the pilot even when it isn't lit.
New owners often smell gas if they are not aware of how the oven pilot light works.

Modern stoves shut off the gas to the pilot but the Magic Chef used in most GMC motorhomes does not. The oven control has an off position and a pilot off position. Many turn it to off but gas flows to the pilot light in the oven. If the pilot is not lit then a small amount of gas vents inside the motorhome. To prevent this on must put the control to the Pilot Off position.

Im not sure what fridge you have, but if its gas (and also runs on electrci) there is also a burner there that needs to be lit, that stays on similar to a pilot light.
Also dont know what kind of water heater you have. If its a propane unit with Direct spark ignition there is no pilot to light so no worries. If not there is a pilot there as well, but only if you want hot water. You should be able to shut that off at the gas valve just to be sure.
It also would not hurt to bubble soap all the fittings and connections you can see with the gas on to see if you have any leaks.
Hope this helps.
