Driving down the road on a test drive oil pressure started dropping and valve lifters started tapping. Stopped and checked the oil and got no level. I checked it again and still no level. Only had 60 miles since oil change. It's a 455. Added three quarts and still no level. Dip stick was hard to install and found tube loose. Found tube separated from the block. How much oil is this likely to leak out. Can I expect the oil to blow out the opening? If so this would explain my oil loss issue last year. How is this best fixed? Is there a possibility that a piece dropped into the pan? Do I have to drop pan to fix?

Ours was in sad shape when we got it. Bought one from Cinnabar for around $17 in 2005 before I knew of other vendors. I have seen owner fabricated replacements from stainless. I bet Jim Kanamata has them.

Jon, my dipstick tube broke on the way to Virginia Beach last year, Stephanie had the brilliant idea to use an earplug in the hole, the earplug formed itself to the tube and did not leak, the heat did not bother it and we completed our trip without any problems. I replaced mine with a flexible Lokkar tube for an LS1... Google olds 455 dip stick lokkar...the hotrodders do it all the time. But you have to lift the hatch every time.
