Thanks to all who expressed interest in this system but it has been sold to one of our prominent members.

Brian,

If you're talking about the "Tailgater" I have one on Double Trouble that I have used for two seasons and I'm happy with it.

I'm using the Winegard In Motion Sat system (no idea what model it is), but
it is with DirecTV. I think the guy in Quartzsite said it could be used
with Dish, but not certain. Works perfectly until a tunnel, trees, or a
mountain gets in the way. While in Quartzsite, I had a second cable run
from it so my DVR could record 2 channels at the same time. Wife and I are
loving it...

Brian,
Why would you want an in-motion setup? You cannot watch it going down the road and the cost of a in-motion setup is not cost effective.

These two units are the best for Satellite Antennas and the best bang for your dollar.

http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/king-flex-portable-satellite-antenna/68963
and
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/dish-tailgater-satellite-antenna/65148

The first has 2 outlet and the second only 1.

I have a fellow GMC’er who I travel with who has the first and it only takes a few minutes to be up and running. He has roof mount and if necessary can move away to clear obstacles.

Most of your in-motion units are hard mounted to your coach and cannot detached to clear obstructions and are 2X to 3X in cost compared to the first 2 units.

http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/winegard-roadtrip-mission-satellite-tv-antenna-in-motion-black/55641
and
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/winegard-roadtrip-mission-satellite-tv-antenna-in-motion-white/55640

If you search other suppliers you will find a number of other in-motion but the drawback on all is the cost.

A lot of people haul grandkids and guests. And there are also some sports fan(atic)s that have to watch crap live or they think they will die.

I wouldn't spend the money, but some would. I rigged up a 12VDC VCR and a 7" TV when my kids were little. Took a bunch of Disney movies and other cartoons in a box of VHS tapes. Made the 500 mile trip to the in-laws' and the 700 mile trip to the out-laws tolerable for everyone.

JR,

Expensive?

However, I am not sure if this system will stay "hooked up" to the satellite when in motion. It's worth a call to Dish at any rate:

No, that's not an in-motion system. I'm sure it would not track after
initial setup. More than that, it ONLY receives the western satellite
cluster, NOT the eastern. That restricts where it can be used --
specifically, I cannot use mine here because the tall trees to the west of
our lot obscure the western satellites. Our fixed antenna is aimed at the
eastern ones. I'd never again buy an antenna that would not work with both
sets.

yep...aiways on ,whether you are moving or stopped, providing there are no ostructions, I also believe that since the unit is permanently mounted like the bat wing aerial, that you can get a device that plugs in to receiver that makes the device portable should you be parked for a longer period with an obstructed view....anyway good to hear it works as advertised...thanks....brian 77 ele 455

One of the nice things about the in-motion sets is when parking you know you have a signal. With the other dishes there may be something in the way and you can't pick up a signal. You may only have needed to move a few feet to obtain the signal but might have to move numerous times to find it. It sure makes things simple. It's also nice to listen to music on a long run where reception can be hard to find (like out west).
I picked up a used KVH in motion in January for $250 that works great and my brother picked one up a week later in Quartzsite for $300.
There are units available with the push to HD, lots of take outs available.
Just do your homework on the systems before buying.

Hal,

With the Dish Tailgater all you need to do is park so that it can have a clear view of the southern sky. I have a compass so I can
tell which way is south.

I've used it for two summers and have NEVER had to move after parking.

Regards,
Rob M.

Brian, I'm Direct TV. The Dish systems use a different tech and can get HD with the in motion systems if that is a concern for you. I'm not crazy about the domes as they tend to loose the signal more than an open dish but do like the in motion advantages. We have an old Datron open dish on our bus that works fine but there have been times we had to move to get a signal-the last time this past September along the Columbia River east of Portland. We only had to move a few feet, but it was still a pain. I can read a compass too but line of sight from the roof top isn't the same as from the drivers vantage point. More so in a 45' coach for sure but can still be an issue in our smaller rigs.
Using a carry out dish always had me a little nervous that it might 'walk' away while we were away.
Just my thoughts, Hal
