The pressboard in my original, and repainted (by P.O.), kitchen counter top is literally an explody mess, and expanding into my window shade surrounds. (From previous leaks.)

Standard depth preformed countertops do not seem to be an option as they are not deep enough, and the backsplash has to be altered to accommodate the window and power outlet.

I have read about people using old desks, and I'm curious what other materials are a good economic (read: inexpensive) option.

I took the dimensions to a local shop and they quoted me $400 to cut a remnant that I would then need to install. Didn't sound too exorbitant, but curious if that sounds high or low to others more familiar with that material. Gap where the stove is, hole where the sink is and a two inch splashguard down the back.

Thanks.
