Tony Cook wrote on Mon, 09 March 2015 20:21Yes i don't think its fuel pump either but i do need to change probably original. And yes thinking selector valve needs replacing as well just weird it does this in either or tank in use.
Tony
If the problem occurs with either tank then I would suspect the line from the selector valve to the filter. Could even be in the steel line that runs over the crossmember.
I would generally be more suspect of the rubber hose as they can draw air in through a slit while not leaking fuel.

Yes seeing that the Selector valve could be the problem it's definitely on the trouble shoot list.

What worked for me. Get rid of the selector . Mount a carter p70 pump with check valves and filters for each tank on the outside of the frame rails. Run the fuel line up the rear of the engine. Get rid of the mechanical pump and front fuel line.

Lol that was the case before having tanks and lines redone but now it is most definitely starving because of the air / vapor happening before the fuel pump as i can see it happening with the clear filter i added before the fuel pump . They start off very small when viewing through the see through filter and then ends up like a wooshing sloshing session happening causing the lean issue. All I'm saying is i now can see most definitely what is happening just now trying to figure out how to remedy it ? Switching on the pusher pump does help i can see when i engage the pusher pump it preaserize's the line but doesn't seem to totally cure it.
Tony
Have you considered there may be a split in a rubber hose allowing air to be sucked in?
Dennis
A couple of years ago I smelled gas when I turned on my electric pusher pump in my driveway. The rubber line that goes from the cross member to the inlet of the fuel pump had about 10 pin hole size holes in it. After I replaced that, I haven't had so called vapor lock issues in the mountains again.

I've a Mr Gasket pump in series with the aux tank, runs off the selector valve. For 20 feet of fused wire, another pump, and a relay I can do away with the selector and have an electric pumop for each tank. I'm mounting them on a piece of flat steel bolted to the frame rail and the crossmember.
