Any that were at Chippewa falls noticed the absence of Dave Lenzi.
He has been a fixture both at breakfast and for at least one very informative tech session at every GMCMI rally I have been to.

I both had to and wanted to go see Dave, so we went to his home. We had a wonderful visit with he and Mary.

He was diagnosed with cancer and has been treated and is looking real well. He allows that he is a little slow, but is getting back. slowly. We had time to talk about a lot of what he has done with engines, his coach and his home. You think you knew this guy is talented and resourceful? You might know the first half of it. He doesn't just work magic with old parts, he does woodwork that is amazing.

He has some other issues to tend to and so should not be expected at Patterson, but is still looking forward to Rapid City.
Prayers still will help.

Matt

Thanks Matt. I've been concerned, as many of us have, but did not want to bother them by calling. I was really hoping we would see him at Patterson. We'll keep him in our prayers.

Thanks Matt

Coincidentally, just this morning I was thinking about Dave and Mary and sent them an email. Thanks for the update.

Matt,

Dave is a Renaissance man, he can do anything, when I grow up I want to be just like him!

Helen and I visited Mary and him several years ago. His workshop is IMMACULATE and TOTALLY ORGANIZED.

When we were looking at his GMC with the 8.1 Vortec out of the blue he asked me if I'd like to drive it. I was gob smacked!
Naturally I said yes and he pulled it out of the garage and headed down the road to a church parking lot and pulled in. We switched
seats and I drove it back to his home. It was amazing! You just touch the gas pedal and it's GOES! Just touch the brakes and it
begins to STOP instantly. When we got back to his home we chatted about that engine a bit and later I found a Dyno run for it on the
internet.

Here's a link to it: http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/aa-miscellaneous-photos/p52884-dyno-run-vortec-81.html

Note the torque at 1200 rpm - AMAZING!

PS - Did Dave happen to mention that the home he and Mary currently occupy is the SECOND home he has designed AND built himself!

Matt,

I'm very glad that you went. You have done what I would have liked to
do. He's a great individual that one particularly hates to see going
through the experience of dealing with cancer. It is so good to hear
that he's having success with the treatments and planning to get to
Rapid City.
