Hello from now snow bound near blizzard condition in North East Illinois.
I look out the window and have 4 foot high snow drifts and mountains of snow on the garage roof. We are about 6 hour into this and expect another 6 hours yet.

So we get to thinking about the GMC, of course, what else is there.

I have been toying with the idea of looking at what is behind that first step when you step up to the drivers area.

Has anyone done this or thought about it? Is it rediculously hard to do or can it be done with bolts and angle iron....

thanks for any thoughts on this, guess I'll go look at the snow fly for awhile more......

It has pieces of drivetrain behind part of it, and wires/hoses/etc routed behind some of it. It would be a major undertaking for not a lot of room. I find the seat pedistals have a surprising space.

If you can live with a shorter couch, you could build something behind the driver's seat. I always thought a Flat screen that rose up from storage there would be neat. A writing or computer table that articulated out of such an area might be trick as well.

Stan,

Give up that one. If you take either wheel well liner you will see that there is not much hope there.

Gene gave you the links to look at, spend an evening on that.

Take a look at a Avion. They put in their "ski locker", opening to the passenger side. It extends all the way across the width of the vehicle. Mine has several internal access points, so I can place "stuff" inside the locker and get at it from the inside of the coach. You do get a little extra step in the interior of the GMC.

Most of the Avion’s I have personally seen, there are 4 in the GMCGL club including mine have removed the “Ski Locker” removed and the small side door removed. It is a fall/trip hazard as it creates a half step going up and down from the cockpit. It does provide reasonable storage for ski’s but everything else must be small and ski boots won’t easily fit too. It just wasn’t a good idea IMPO. Rob I don’t know if you still have this feature in both of your Avion’s and you opinion may vary from mine.

I did not know till those sales videos got here, but my coach has Optional cupboards all the way across the front and 3 in the back.I had to take out the centre "Gun Cabinet" as I kept hitting my head on it just to open the curtains.I bet you could get them as well. You can kinda see in my lttle video walk through I did a couple years back.

Tom,

Al Richardson showed me the "trap door" to the ski locker and I decided to copy what he did. However, I have decided to remove it
and the useless "love seat" and extend the galley so I can install a dishwasher. Don't laugh, the model I am looking as has room for
six settings and uses two gallons of water. Almost all the reviewers note it REALLY cleans their dishes! I also intend to raise the
dinette seats as they are too low for me.

I agree with Matt that reducing the width of the step to the area just over the transmission is difficult I am going to look at
doing that as well to The Blue Streak as it is gutted.
