Hi,

Can anyone measure the thickness of the timing chain crank gear on an Olds?
I’m dong a mock-up and need to make a spacer to properly locate the harmonic
balancer. Just the thickness of the gear is all I need.

WOW..I can't belive it. Just 2 hours ago, i was cleaning my work shop and I put that gear in may hand and had to think a few seconds why I should keep it. It went into the garbage and I had to dig it out.

Now???? Do I toss it again??? Sad

Again I measure 1.010"

Best regards

Don't forget to add the thickness of the oil slinger as well as the
crankshaft sprocket.

Just went and measured a couple of crank sprockets. One was 1.00 " and
another was .998". Slinger is .045" or so.

OK now 0.010" sure is a lot of difference. Interesting!!!

However No Argument Intended !!!

I just want to show you mine. Smile

It might have been an aftermaket part. It comes from a 455 Crankshaft Core I bought to regrind after my original crankshaft was ruined by an engine failure. I had and used Cloyes double roller Sets

John, I did not see your post until I had already sent mine. Probably the
difference in thickness that each of us measured with different tools, on
different gears, at different temperatures, probably fits hi/lo spec
tolerances fairly closely. The gear is 1" nominal. + or - a bit.

As the little German guy on Laugh-In would say-- "Veeerrrry interesting".
I doubt that .010" will make much difference. Thanks.
