Brian,

Truck scales have three separate pads, one for the prime mover, the second for the first trailer and a third for the third trailer.

You pull your GMC on to the scale with both front wheels on the front pad and both rear wheels on the second pad, the operator takes
a weight. You now have the total weight and the weight on the front and back wheels.

You back up and pull back on to the front and middle pads with the passenger side wheels off the scales, the operator takes a
weight. You now have the weight on the driver side front and rear wheels.

I have had this done at a couple of CAT scales, however, not all CAT scales are set up to allow you to pull off to the side you have
to find one that is.

Also I went in and spoke to the scale operator BEFORE I pulled onto the scales to explain what I wanted to do, why I wanted to do
it; and make sure they were OK with it.

IIRC the first weighing cost me $12.00 and each additional weighing was $2.00 for a total of $16.00.

The non monitored ones up here are single pad so trucker would weigh the steers, then drivers and then trailer adding up all the numbers himself. In this case you would want to weigh your front and then rears and record and then you would want to get each individual set as close to the center of the pad without other wheel or wheels on pad and record. Many that I have seen might involve turning around or being 90 degrees to the scale traffic because of scale readout proximity to the pad. But doable. Non monitored up here not to busy, had time to unhook trailer when figuring trailer and airboat weight, (2 trips).
Your individual corner weights should ad up to your combined, at least be pretty close.

I'm not sure I understand the remark on not getting a four point weight.

If you follow the procedure that Rob has outlined you will have the
following information.

1> Front axle weight
2> Rear bogies (axle) weight
3> Driver front weight
4> Driver rear bogies (axle) weight
5> Passenger front weight
6> Passenger rear bogies (axle) weight
7> Total weigh of coach as loaded
8> Driver side weight
9> Passenger side weight

I fail to see why one couldn't determine a four-point weight in that
listing. It seems rather obvious to me. Is there something in the
translation that is missing>

I'd also do as Rob suggests. Go in to talk to the scale watcher before
driving onto the scales. Having the weight can be helpful for a number
of reasons.

1> You have a better idea of the tire pressure you should use for the
load rating of the tires.
2> You have a better understanding of where weight may need to be
redistributed such as when loading your coach.

Of course, there is very little one can do to change weight distribution
of the GMC unless you throw off a roof air, get rid of the LP tank,
drive with gas tanks one-half full, drive with fresh water one-half
full, drive with holding tank(s) as empty as possible, or leave the
spouse, pets and kids at home.

For me, knowing how to properly inflate the tires for the best ride and
performance is a big plus.
