G'day,
I got my copy of Bill Bryant's Workprint DVD yesterday and have watched the video a couple of times and it is REALLY interesting!
This shows how much design work went into the GMC and why it left all the other motorhomes of that era for dead!
I was astonished to find out that at one time they actually had a SAUNA in the bathroom!
They also had a neat hinged toilet bowl that you lifted up to flush. I can see why that didn't fly, you'd have to look in the bowl
and Americans don't like looking at poop! As opposed to Europeans where toilet bowls are designed so after you poop you can examine
it.

When I was a kid, we had a 1976 six-pac cabover camper with a wet bath. The toilet folded into the wall. It was pretty cool, but yes, there was no water spot, so you pooped on a flat plate in the bottom of bowl. Anyone who has been to Holland and used a very old Dutch toilet knows the rest.
I don't recall if it mattered to put water in the bowl or not. I don't think it was a bowl more than a plate with a flat floor and sides...
I have never seen one since.

When I was a kid I used an outhouse. The basement really smelled. There
was no running water in it.

Same setup we had in a Born Free camper. Camper was 20' long over all with it's own tag axle. It weighed 5000 lbs so needed the additional axle. Worked fine though and added a lot of room for the shower.

And then there is the testing that is done to determine the
effectiveness of the 1.5 gallon flush with some fabricated floaters and
sinkers. Consumer Reports developed the test a few years back.
Then, there's the recirculating toilet as originally used in most GMCs.
Some chemical and a little water to get started. It sure saved on what
was sent to the holding tank.
