Thanks for the help from community members!
I already posted on the GMC classics facebook website but ill share here as well.
I have gotten in contact with the owner of my familys once owned 1975 Norris GMC.
Wish me luck! i hope I have enough to buy her, im just starting out as a full time RN and saving for a home, but she is worth eating beans for a few months. (Fingers crossed)

Letter as follows:
"Hi Sarah.. I believe that I do indeed have the RV that was in your family. I bought it from a friend that needed money for a car and have had it in storage for the last few years. Unfortunately, I am not what you would call an RV enthusiast and any plans that I may have had to restore her have not materialized. She is not presently in the best condition, but I believe she can be salvaged. I would like to sell her. I'm a fair man and would accept whatever could be construed as a fair offer for her. I'm aware that this particular R V does have some level of collector value, but again, she wasn't in the best shape when I got her (though she did run well) and she needs a lot of work. My phone # is XXX-XXX-XXXX. Alan"

You need to take someone from this community with you when you go to haggle. Based on his assertion that "this particular R V does have some level of collector value", he will want too much for it. That's where a subject matter expert from this community comes in handy. They can dispel any smoke he tries to blow and can tell you what will need to be done to get it roadworthy and an idea of cost so you can decide how much you are willing to pay to buy it and you and the seller have a better chance of "keeping it real".

Use this to find and contact Blacklist members close to the seller that might be willing to help. Zoom out to see more "hits":

I have had a member of the GMC page on facebook offer already (omg I love this community!) to go have a look for me tomorrow as he is passing through that area. We sold her for $19K 12 years ago but the first buyer told me she was in bad shape when he sold her three years later. I am hoping she has depreciated greatly.

Congratulations Sarah. There is lots of data on the selling price of inoperable coaches. At the very, VERY least you're going to need everything rubber. I.E. tires, brake hoses, gas lines, belts, probably fuel pump, batteries. If mice have gotten in, there could be knawed wiring and upholstery. Certainly not worth any more than he paid and I'd expect he would be THRILLED to get his money or some of his money back.

Definitely take Billy Massey (we call him Bdub) up on his offer of inspection. He can/will inject some reality into the negotiation.

I developed the national CL search to determine current fair market value of collector items. Works ...but be advised it's a huge reality check for most owners. And these are just asking prices, many never sell. FWIW, I think the median price for a stored, un-updated coach with a good chassis is around $3500 now. I see them occassionally as low as $1000.

That said, the nature of your hunt puts you in a tough negotiating spot but there was no other way to find it.

With something of this sentimental value, real market values go out the window. Just be cold and honest with yourself about your budget and ability to do the required repairs because nostalgia can leave a bitter aftertaste.

Sarah,

I am so glad that you found your way here.
If things go well, you are about to become a member of a community that is amazing.
Do not worry about asking for help here and there are two very good reasons.
- GMC people love helping other (even perspective) GMC people.
- When you are an owner, you will have adequate opportunity to pass along any favors.

If (when) you are an owner and if you can possibly....
Plan to make it to the Spring Convention in Paterson LA. All these people are real. Most all are traveling couples.
But, there is another FB group you should hit. Mary said it is called Girls on the Go.

Fair Wind and Smooth Sea

I would recommend you phrase the buy as you being willing to help him out since it has some sentimental value to you. Because with out the sentimental value you wouldn't be interested in a coach needing so much work.

All very good advice from everyone. Billy was kind enough to go ahead and have a look at her. the gentleman who has it seems like an honest person who doesnt know whether its worth anything, and billy said he would not have paid more than 1000 for it, so thats what ill offer. Im gong up myself this weekend to see if the engine starts and to patch up the open roof vents
