What does that mean? How do you contact someone who is not accepting PM's if the email system is turned off? Why have an email button if it isn't going to work?

You can choose whether or not to receive PM's from the forum. Some choose to disable this feature. Is that what you are referring to?

No, I clicked on the email button for another member who is not accepting PM's, and it said "The email system has been disabled by the administrator".

I just sent you a PM. It seems to be working. I thing the individual you are attempting to send to has disabled it.

Jared,

I don't know the ins and outs of the Forum but it seems to me that if a member doesn't accept PM's I would assume he doesn't want
emails either.

PM capability is enabled or disabled by the user. Email on the forum by using the button is determined by the administrator and has never been enabled as far as I know. Displaying your email in your profile that other people can see is also up to you. I allow PMs, but have not enabled displaying my email address. Mail list subscribers don't want PMs because they don't use the forum.

If you know the real name of the person you want to contact, you might find him in the Blacklist where there is at least a phone number and most of the time an email address.

The mail list people don't have that problem. They get the email address of the person who submits a post with the post. I only post through the forum, yet I have seen my email address in mail list subscriber's replies to my posts (it depends on the way their mail client is set to reply). I have used that to find other people's email addresses, just use the "show all posts" in their profile and start looking for a reply to them from someone who's mail client sticks the email address in their reply. If you have time and inclination, it usually pays off.

Otherwise, all you can do is submit a post here asking him how you can contact him and hope he sees and acts on it.

Let me see if I can explain why it was turned off. At one time Eugene had it on. You could send email to a email only user but it was sent by the forum on your behalf thereby still protecting your email address. That was in keeping with the idea of protecting users email address from publication and SPAM. Ebay as an example does does this to protect your real address. The problem became when emails sent to email only users it confused them and they would fail to log in or respond. The easiest thing to do was to just turn it off.

All I can say is you will have to live with it. It is the product of this hybrid system. If an emailer wants to receive emails from you he can log in and turn on PM with email notification (I have helped a few emailers do this) or he can post his email address in the clear for you (not recommended).

Sorry......
