Thanks, Ken. My first was a 60 365B cab. Purchased that in 1968 and I drove the wheels square without ever cracking the engine case or the transmission. Only reason I ever sold it was that we moved to Spokane where it was cold in the winter. The exhaust manifold heater just couldn't keep up and it was a pain to always be looking for a winter over storage unit. It is counter intuitive to think the oil temp in an oil cooled engine would be lower than in a water cooled engine. The only Porsche that ever ran hot on me was a 73.5 Targa where someone put in one of the disastrous 2.7L engines. Once I located a proper 2.4 I never saw high temps again. GMC content - we are waiting for the new engine in the Clasco to be ready for us to do the break-in miles, change the oil and baby it back to so. Oregon. Then we will gently start south to snow bird for a couple of months. We have added an alum radiator, alum high performance water pump and one of the new plastic fans. I doub
t if we ever see over temp on that set up! I have removed both external oil coolers and will rely on the radiator coolers which should be more than up to the task. Since the existing engine was still running when it came out we don't expect any of the contamination issues so hope all will be well.

Jerry,

I think you'll find, counter-intuitive as it may seem, that air cooled
engines generally run cooler oil temps than water cooled ones. Ken Burton
recently reported aircraft engine temps similar to those we see/saw on
Porsche's (The '57 356A I restored in '74 is long gone from my life.) :-(
