Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum...
Glad you finally made it.
If you are like many, you will find that a year is just not enough to do an effective tour of the USA.
I will make one suggestion right up front, I am hoping you plan to travel with a laptop. If that is the case, get a copy (beg, borrow or whatever) a copy of Delorme Street Atlas. There used to be a good second in Streets and Trips, but that has been dropped by the publisher. Get one that comes with a GPS and get a small inverter (if the coach does not have) that is big enough to run the laptop while you are underway.
Next, go to the Discovery Owners site http://www.discoveryowners.com/cginfo.htm and look for overlays that might be of interest. There are many, so keep this bookmarked as you learn what you can use and want.
The next one I can't help with a lot because I am set in the market and don't know what is current. Look at "Smart Phones". They do a lot, but first on my list is an app called "Gas Buddy". This can save you 10~20$us at each fueling. On our last 4200mi excursion, it saved the price of the phone.
Do not forget to go to Bdub's site and get a current copy of the GMC Assist - aka Black - list. Carry it with you.
When you can, go to the control panel on the forum and build a sigfile that has - Your real name (so we will know who you are when we meet - and you will meet other owners), a short description of your coach with known modifications (this can make a bid difference as there were changes by model year), and a geographic reference so someone that might like to help knows if he is in striking range.
Oh, and don't publish a good @ddress (what you did in the profile is good) or phone number. There are lots of unvetted readers and some in the past have been spambots.
And lastly, in buying a GMC, you are now a member of a community that is like few others. To me, it is much like the watermen that have been my world. Because of this, I like to welcome new owners much as a new owner would be welcomed there. So,

Welcome aboard!
You might want to stop by the Temecula Bluegrass festival in March. The
Pacific Cruisers should have about 40 coaches there for the event. You will
get more help and opinions that you will ever need as well as tour the
coaches for ideas on what to do with yours.

Wow, u folks ween't kidding about the welcome and sense of community :) A

Kerry, I've no idea about the grill to be honest, I'll check it for a tag or
something when I get near her tonight. I was concerned about the possibility
of it reducing air flow though..
Matt, thanks for tips, we won't be going anywhere for at least 2 years. I
bought the coach now so we could get to know each other and a psychological
benefit for my wife Anne and I that we will actually follow this dream :)
The coach did belong to Dana Brock as the service records list her name. I
know she was a member here and you folks helped her out of a sticky
situation. The guy I bought it from, bought it from her in Malibu,CA about 3
years ago. I have no updates on her present whereabouts.
I plan to list the service records in another post and to seek knowledge to
help in her revival to somewhat of her former glory.
To Scott and Rick we'd love to swing by and welcome all such offers :lol:

Welcome Martin. A few words of advice from personal experience:
If you didn't do it, it hasn't been done.
That fact that it was replaced with new 12 years ago means nothing.
Stock is fine for now, you can upgrade at your leisure late.
One caveat on that last one. If you have 16.5" rims, replace them with 16". You'll be money and time ahead.
