I am in agreement with Ken Burton on Facebook.
I don't use it and don't plan to. There are too many privacy issues with the site. A couple of my daughters are on it all the time but I don't feel the need to join them.
The GMCNet, GMCPhotos site, the GMC club sites plus Gene Fisher's site and Billy Masseys site give me all the GMC motorhome information I need. Attending GMC rallies and GMCMI conventions are also great sources of up to date information.
There is such a thing as spreading oneself too thin.

That's the biggest issue, Emory. For any given member -here or on FB, there are only so many keystrokes in a day. Even fewer 'quality' keystrokes.

I am also with Emery on using Facebook. I do have an account and I check it maybe once a week. It is just not as safe as the net and photo site.

To be honest I've rarely seen anyone over there disparage people over here except for one member. That one member makes me want to quit the Facebook group, but so far I've managed to ignore his provocative attitude. That being said, people here knock Facebook all the time, as this very thread shows. The people over there knock the technology and interface, which is an older generation of technology. It is what it is.

When I was in high school, the Russians orbited Sputnik, which was little
more than a radio transmitter with a bunch of whip antenna enclosed in a
metal ball. But that feat prodded the U.S. out of their comfort zone, and
led to an unprecedented growth in the high tech business world wide. I
decided that I needed to be able to see more of the world, and at the time
I was friends with a guy who had a Hallicrafter multi band radio receiver.
We would stay up late at night when the radio frequencies settled down, and
listened to Ham Operators around the world. I studied vacuum tube theory,
learned what a superhet radio circuit was, and decided to build my own ham
rig. At the time there was a radio surplus supply house in the midwest, I
seem to remember the name of Walter Asche, and they had a kit available
using vacuum tubes, and Government surplus parts, that I saved up my
strawberry picking money and I bought and subsequently assembled. With the
addition of a long wire antenna I was able to listen to sputnik as it
passed overhead. Gee, that was a very long time ago. Shortly after that,
someone in Bell Labs or a similar facility came up with something called a
transistor. Wow, overnight, vacuum tubes became dinosaurs. All that code
practice, vacuum tube theory classes, soldering practice, just went out the
window into the trash heap. It is a brave new world. New stuff comes along
and supersedes the old stuff. Same goes for people. It has been one hell of
a rainbow ride, but age has a way of leveling the playing field. GMCnet,
GMCforum, Facebook, Twitter, will all pass from collective memories. Just
the way it is, moving west.

I am there and it is neat for me.Reconnected with my college proffesor and countless friends around the world.I like how new GMC owners try to search out PO's.THIS is the place they should be but most people are real stupid.I never really realized this before and I was born in 1961.

Facebook is only as intrusive as you allow it to be. Any site you visit
can track the clicks you make. Google is probably worse than FB in terms
of tracking your viewing habits. You think all the ads and "related
articles" you see on webpages are random?
Even your own websites aren't totally safe, there are webbots that visit
sites to harvest user data, the simplest being email. Anyway, it's
amusing to see folks pick on one particular site when its practices are
just the same as all the others out there.

You guys bank online? You're nuts. I go to conferences with guys who write the software for moving money between banks and internationally. They won't bank online.

I've seen their work --firsthand. Now that the statute of limitations has run out, I might even be coaxed to tell about it ...offline. Over a beer. Suffice it to say that if these guys (good or bad) get ahold of your IP number while you're online then they can rifle through your device pretty damn fast.
BTW, in the US, your debit card does NOT have the $50 protection that credit cards have. If they have your pin, they're in.

I don't know how it is in the US. I do bank online. I used to work for a
software company that writes the banking backend as well as the frontend
for banking transactions. It is safer to bank online, than it is to bank
using pen and paper. This statement is true for all countries that
support HBCI. I do not know how safe OFX or each bank specific
implementation.
And yes, each and every site is able to track you. Some sites are more
successful than others in doing so. If you don't want to get tracked,
always run in anonymous setups. If you are more paranoid, go through
stuff like Tor. Or: Live with it. I do. I write stuff on the net that I
would always put on a postcard. If I want stuff over the net that I
wouldn't put on a postcard, I use PGP.

The FB GMC Classic Page has lots of pretty color pictures with the posts giving it an enticing look. Seems on average a younger crowd and I find myself rehashing what has long been researched, established and documented here for years, with hopes of preventing the classic PO mistakes. Exhausting at times.

RC,
Thanks for those articles they are very interesting, however, I bank with the 360° Federal Credit Union in Windsor Locks, CT.
Formerly it was called the Hamilton Standard Federal Credit Union and I have been using it my US Bank for 46 years (1968 - 2014) for
my finances since I hired in at Hamilton Standard in 1968. I was based in Windsor Locks, CT - Houston, Texas - Paris, France -
Sydney, Australia - Hong Kong, China - back to Houston, Texas - retired to Sydney, Australia. Obviously my banking modus operandi
has changed over the 46 year period I've used them but as soon as they created a website I used it.
I've never lost a penny.
Maybe it's because hackers are not interested in a small credit union in Podunk Connecticut. ;-)
On to the articles and video, in both articles it was noted that the banks will "make you whole" as long as you report any
unauthorized transactions immediately.
I have two United Airlines Credit Card issued by Chase and I have set them both up to send me an email whenever:
1) any transaction exceeds $100 USD
2) any transaction occurs Internationally (I get LOTS of emails for those as I live in Australia)
3) any gas station transaction
4) any on-line or phone transaction
I'm not worried one iota.

Rob M.

AFTER you file fraud papers and wait. Been there. Except I didn't have to wait as I had a handwritten note on my signature card "No electronic transfers." I told Wachovia to have the $9k back in the account by 2pm. They did. (The US has since passed a banking law that trumps that signature card trick, btw.)
And only individuals are protected....
"In the United States, consumers have little to no liability if a computer infection from a banking Trojan leads to the emptying of their bank accounts -- provided that victims alert their bank in a timely manner. Businesses of all sizes, however, enjoy no such protection, with many small business owners shockingly unaware of the risks of banking online."

And we haven't even talked about card skimmers yet.
