Doesn't have the track rails extending into the garage space, and that only half the height of the door ends up above the open doorway

I like it.
That would allow me to install a hoist in that area. I have 12' ceilings.

David,

You can also get roll up doors which don't cover the garage ceiling; JohnS has one on his garage at home.

Considering a GMC with OEM A/C's is roughly ten feet high and hoist ramps are about 3 inches off the ground would it really be worth
the cost of a hoist to raise it less than two feet?

RC,

These roll up doors are also available and don't extend into the garage as much.

http://etogaragedoors.com/curtain-steel-roll-up-doors.html

This is what 99% of the houses in Australia have on their garages.

Bruce,

The company I provided sells insulation for the roll up doors.

Insulation is made of a foil-backed, dual-layer polyethylene air-bubble insulation secured in place with a strong adhesive and
joined by mylar film to provide an R value of 4 (top draft stop and side draft stops are also included).

Rob,
Really? 99% of homes in Australia use that type of garage door? it has a very back-street industrial look. I see very few around here, off the top of my head mostly in unheated industrial warehouse compounds.

This stacking door has some pretty nice designs and available R-10.6 insulation.

We put in R-16 overhead doors in Murray's new home. I just shot the temperatures with an IR gun:
Outside on OVH door -7.6C
Inside on OVH door 10.9C
floor surface 13C
Outside wall (inside) 12.2C
Air temp (thermostat on outside wall) 12.5C
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/the-murray-gets-a-home/p55247-driveway-and-landscaping-done-end-of-story.html

I'm assuming Harry is talking about a hoist for cars only.

Bruce,

And they are scarce in the USA as well. However, we're talking about Australia and here's a link to the number one suppler of Roller
Doors.

Here you go! http://www.bnd.com.au/about-us/about-bnd

If you really don't believe me feel free to go to Google maps and look at some street views that the Google camera car takes.

Regards,
Rob

I have the steel roll up doors in my shop. They work great but do have a commercial look. From an overhead track standpoint, it's a lot less overhead intrusion than a standard garage door and even this folder. Mine all roll up into about 18x18" above the door.

Prior to these, I had rolling barn doors.

Yes, I meant a car hoist.
'37 Ford
'51 Ford Victoria
'87 El Camino
'80 El Camino
All in various stages of disrepair.
The 26' GMC is in there too.
I have one hoist, 7,000 lbs that goes high enough to work under a car. Plus I park a car under when I'm not working.
