Of the explanations I have heard, that is the only one that made any sense. One guy in Ontario tried to tell me it had something to do with Scotland but the rest of his story made no sense.

You think that is a zoo? Let's just say that someday you should see it from inside....
Even an evening around the bouys race would do. If you get the opportunity - take it.
If you have ever talked to a real race car driver, he will tell you that he feels safer on a track at what ever speed than he does on the road. This is simply because, on the track, everybody knows what he is doing and they are all going the same direction.
Same - Same.
These boats may not be all that fast in a clock sense, but a 50foot racing sloop is going to be about 10~12 ton displacement and even with the low speed (10~12 knots= 15MPH) if you do the MV**2, you will see that there is a lot energy available to do damage if things go wrong. And, Remember, they don't have brakes.....

For me, Boxing Day is a good day to work on the GMC. Business is slow any way, so we took the day off. My wife had to work, so that leaves me with a day to get some GMC stuff done. So far I have driven to Chevron and put in 25 gallons of gas (with my Safeway discount it only cost 1.21/gallon), checked the transmission fluid (added about 12 oz.), adjusted and lubricated the choke linkage, emptied and flushed the holding tank (didn't get it quite empty after our last trip a few weeks ago), filled the water tank for our next trip, and checked the water level in the house batteries (each cell took about 6 oz.). Next on the agenda is to do some polishing.
The low temp is supposed to be in the 20s here tonight, so I will plug the coach in and turn on my little Pelonis electric heater for the night. That should take care of any potential freezing issue we might have (it has always worked in years past).
Next Saturday we are heading to Joshua Tree NP and then an FMCA rally in Indio, CA. Looking forward to it. This will be my "birthday trip" (59) for this year.

Carl, are you sure your fuel costs $1.21? Shouldn't it be more like $2.21?

You read that right. $1.21.9 per gallon.  The normal price IS $2.21, but I had a one dollar per gallon discount racked up on my Safeway card. They will only let you get 25 gallons at that price, but I take full advantage of that program, even taking gas cans with me when I don't have that much capacity left. I estimate that the program has saved me at least $300.00 over the past year alone.

Wow! Kinda like a great Christmas present. What a deal. Kinda make me
wonder what them A- -rabs are up to now. (Grin Maybe we ought to buy all

Ken,
I spent Boxing Day driving from Philadelphia area to Nebraska in route to Idaho. Drove right past Hebron Indiana on Interstate 80. I waved as we went by. We are driving a small car and will log about 1200 to 1300 miles today. Making good time. Average speed 74 mph over a 13 hour time period so far. 32 MPG in a Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged 2.0 liter. Wish I had the GMC.

You should have stopped but I'm sure at the speed you were running that from the time you stepped on the brakes until you actually stopped that you would have been in the next county.
Enjoy the trip.
I spent all day inside trying to recover from a cold. I'm not being very successful at it. I have been trying to figure out how to blame this cold on Dan.

I have been trying to figure out how to blame Dan for getting the cold in the first place. You have a point, He could be handing me hot toddys or something to get rid of it. I'm sure not getting anywhere on my own. At least it isn't the flu.

If Dan had been there before you got the cold and had been waiting on you,
