Sigmund,
I have the same HF jack stands and have been using them for years. I also have their 6 and 12 ton models (they'll get the GMC off
the ground higher).
It has been correctly pointed out here that jack stands can collapse and the last time I looked at the Torin brand jack stands sold
by Northern Tools they had a feature I had never seen before, a locking pin that went through the stands frame and vertical supports
teeth.

I was able to modify a Harbor Freight jack stand:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6101-jack-stand-security-pin-mod.html
According to MM X-7525, Section 3 - General Information, Page 0-3, Figure 6 - Vehicle Hoisting Points / Approved Lifting Points:
1) Front Engine Crossmember
2) Under driver side Rear Suspension Bracket (bogie)
3) Under passenger Rear Suspension Bracket (bogie)
I've seen a fair few GMC frames that looked like sine wave because owners decided to jack their GMC up under the horizontal section
of the frame. I've noted that jacking up under where the front or rear sections are bolted to the long frame members and doubled it
seems to be OK. It is possible to distribute the load using a piece of 3/8" thick steel 12 " long by 2" wide.

I have those jack stands. They are solid and do the job. Instead of the floor jack< I use the squatty, low profile hydraulic jack
- 12,000 pounds. I can usually find a place to put it under the frame, but I am not dealing with a flat tire yet.

I bought one of the aluminum ones on sale.
Since Shawnee was so close to home, wife drove the GMC pickup and followed me in the coach.
I brought lots of tools AND the floor jack. Came in handy when I helped Sully do his bag conversion on Kim's coach.

I have a Craftsman (made in USA) 3 TON quick lift floor jack. It grunts
pretty good lifting the front end of a GMC. I use 2ea 6 ton jack stands to
support the front end, once it is airborne. They are placed under the frame
behind the front tires where the front clip is bolted to the frame rails. I
use them only on level concrete floors.
