We seem to be Sunday-engineering the future integration of present-day monitoring technology with the GMC over the last day or two. Surviving GMCs are ripe for it, of course. In many cases it will simplify and reduce costs while providing a better -or previously unavailable- system. Just take a look at how much we DON'T need to spend on entertainment systems for the coaches now.

So here is a presentation at the 2013 ToorCon. Proprietary tire monitoring systems ($$$$) are about to go open-source. They just don't know it. Yet.

I looked into this and decided it isn't worth it.
There are very nice off the shelf units that work very good for our coaches.
Why build when I can buy?

Very interesting. I really hadn't given any thought to the details of TPMS
operation. I guess I'd just assumed that their transmitter range was the
only discrimination; hadn't even gotten around to considering how they knew
which tire was low.

Far less had I imagined that the TPMS ID's were so unique that they could
be used for vehicle tracking. 1984, Huh?

How does the vehicle know what tire is low?

Each monitor must be registered into the TPMS Module. IT'S position is noted during the registration process. Whenever a TPMS sensor is replaced the Tire Tech goes Through a process of registration with his machine. This is similar to changing radio coded ignition keys. They are identified and Registered into the ECU. The tire Technician needs a computer to rotate your tires in systems that have identified tires. ( how many people knew that huh?) Most don't.

On another note: FINALLY. We are now going to get longer days. Up here in the Great White North. Smile (Sorry to Rob Mueller and Others, that yours are now going to get Shorter in Sydney ;-( ) Santa is one of my Neighbors and I've Put a good word in for all GMCers across the world Wink Happy Solstice!!

Best regards.
