Hey, let it ride.. right. Hey, we do live in America. Dick does a great
job and he can also be a good choice. Have have a great respect for him
and I feel he does for me as well so I guess that's what's really
important. Probably need to end this thread, what needs to be said has
been.

I have no idea of the quality of or what is included in Jim B. supplied carbs. I have no idea on who Jim B. has rebuilding them for him.
I do know and have had experience on multiple Dick P. rebuilt carbs, distributors, engines, and transmissions.
This does not mean there is anything wrong with Jim B. supplied carbs and that they are any better or worse than those from Dick P.
I simply recommend what I have had experiences with.
Both vendors (Jim B. and and Dick P.) are superior GMC vendors.

Both guys provide good carbs for your coach. Dick does his one way and Jim B. the other way. Jim explained his process a number of years ago. The carbs are rebuild by an independate rebuilder in Orlando using the correct parts and then are wet flowed as he explained it. It is your carb that is rebuild and returned to you. The choice yours on which way you want to go and the pricing is very similar with Jim’s pricing a little less than than Dick’s.

Ken, Gene and others,
I completely know you guys are behind what we do, there have been ups and
downs but overall, it comes down to our mutual love of these machines. All
the rest is social and boy -- that's one thing about humans in general --
we are what we are. So look, when I said what I did was for the lurkers
out there. After talking with a close friend about this I realized many of
you guys on the GMCnet maybe don't understand what this forum represents
and how it is being used. My bet is for every one person who posts here
even occasionally there are hundreds of folks out there trying to glean all
they can about all of you and the community in general. You are here
because you have something in common and enjoy discussing things about it,
there is a larger group that is completely interested in a GMC but hasn't
felt competent enough to get involved. Others are doing their "due
diligence" trying to learn as much as they can before making the jump. You
may never hear from them here but I do. That is the customer for the level
of restoration we do. This is the next generation of owners and they may
be here for more reasons than you. Some speak up as lurkers and I think
that's great but as Confucius says, you can learn more by listening!
So this group has a speaker listening to you guys and remember, once you
press sent -- they all get that and they are listening. Now, put yourself
in my shoes, the ones listened to responds to a post about a player in the
community, someone they may have called -- someone I may have spent an hour
or more talking about the GMC -- the good, bad and ugly. I do not buy or
sell coaches but I hate to hear someone stressed out about all the crap
they are now having to do to their coach after someone told them the coach
was ready for the road. It's not that the seller may have been hiding the
truth but the fact is "road ready" will mean different things to different
people.
Had a guy who picked up a coach that had been stored in an aircraft hanger
for 14 years, I knew the coach and I know the guy who sold it to him told
the truth when he sold it. The new owner had a different perception of
"low mileage" and "needs to be gotten back up to condition". On a 30+ year
ald beast brother there are so many ways you can get bit but you must
understand and expect that. In the end, this owner actually has
contributed here and was educated on the fly and was aware enough of how
things are that he rolled with it and shifted those expectations and what
was needed. He invested more than he paid to get the coach operational and
now the coach is being taken to the next level of reliability and updating
with us and that customer went into the purchase knowing what he had, what
was needed and what reasonable expectations are.
OK, there is a good chance both of those guys are lurking here --- and when
brought up that someone was considering sending a carb to me for
refurbishing you guys immediately blew that off and told him to send it to
Dick. Heck, we had been talking through his issues before, he was sort of
confirming his decision.
There is nothing wrong with Dicks carbs, there is nothing wrong with ones I
or Jim K. or whoever who is an accepted dealer in this community. It
should be those here vocal here on the net to open someones viable options,
lay them all out and let that person do their own "due diligence" ---call,
talk to others and make a personal decision based on their findings. You
guys -- and I don't mean this maliciously are not the last word on many
issues you discuss. The minute you think you know everything you are a
fool! Don't know who said that but came from someone who rose up in their
understand and one day realized so many other people also had good ideas
and who was he to push his ideas on anyone. The best is to present the
options to others and let them choose.
Dangit, I'm not trying to preach here but really, last night it became
apparent to me that in fact the 2 factions of this community may not
understand how they impact the other.
So guys, when someone wants to understand and asks a question like that
-- unless you really wanna impact that person, business but especially a
business that is involved, give a safe overview and let those folks make
their informed decision.
So now if I'm out of line I am sorry -- I hold nothing against anyone
involved but I just don't want either group to get confliction
information. If you really hatemy guts --- could be -- then have at it.
This is my passion, my hobby and my business and livelihood -- you must
expect a reply.
Like I said on that last post I sent, this thread should probably wind
down, each one of the folks listening now I hope have the answers they were
looking for. I swear, if we all took a bit more of the soap opera out of
the forum it would be more interesting. Of course that's my opinion and I
don't wanna push my ideas on others...

Jim.
Thanks for all you do for this great GMC community. My Q-jet story is another shining example of our great GMC vendors. My carb was gummed up from years of sitting and needed cleaning and rebuild. I have an old hot rod friend who rebuilds race engines for a living. He turned me on to Holley double pumper racing carbs and I run them on my old trucks and they have served me well for many years. Because of this I was inclined to put a Holley on the GMC, likely a vacume operated secondary version due to the weight of the GMC. Double pumpers work best with lighter vehicles and manual transmissions.
Here is where the GMC vendors come in. Ken Frey practically begged me not to go the Holley route. "Please give the original design a chance", we can make it better than new with a few tricks and techniques we have learned along the way. Tricks to work better with today's fuel like larger metering rods and drilling one of the air circuits larger.
Ken's offer to me was to let him do it at no charge and then drive it until next inspection or service. I was only to pay him if it operated perfectly and to my full satisfaction. That included; choke, fast idle, slow idle, transition off idle and full secondary operation. I believe he also beefs up the accelerator pump. Well it works perfectly. It will even take itself off fast idle as it warms up. I happily paid him the roughly $300 for the rebuild and carb tune.
These vendors really know what they are doing. I use Ken because he is local to me and I have ordered from many others. It is on my bucket list to visit the Co-op and Applied GMC. I would love to have a Patterson distributor and carry my current unit as a spare.

I know when we install the Patterson carb for the California Smog test they
work great.
We supply the Patterson/Springfild units and keeep them in stock.
For those that are economically sided we supply our own that is done by a
one man shop.
