G'day,

I was contacted in a Private Message on the Forum about this situation so I thought I'd take a minute to fill you in from here. It
is a bit after 9:00 PM here in Sydney and this situation has been going on for around 12 hours so far. The Police are holding their
cards close to their chest and releasing very little information so as not to make the situation worse. The New South Wales Premier
(Governor) and the Police Commissioner just had a short press conference the bottom line of which was that they are doing everything
in their power to assure that everyone comes out of this unhurt. The number of hostages being held has been reported from 15 to 50.
Five people have managed to get out of the Lindt Café; it is not 100% clear if they escaped or were released. According to reports
it is a lone gunman who is wearing a headband with Arabic writing on it. It has been reported that he has a shotgun, pistol, and
that "an explosive device has not been ruled out." He has made hostages in the Café hold up a flag of some Muslim organization. The
Muslim community and all the leaders (including the chief Imam in Australia) have condemned this act and that it is defiling the
Muslim religion. A multi denominational prayer meeting was held at the largest Mosque in Sydney with a Rabbi, Priest, and Ministers
in attendance. Police are cautioning the population to stay calm and not react with anti-Muslim acts of reprisal.

Regards,
Rob M.

Well, that is a plus. At least now Australia won't have to listen to the SOB ranting his hateful spew on the news and courtroom for the next 50 years until he died of old age.

Australia doesn't have the death penalty do you? or concealed carry?

Kerry,

I agree the fact that the gunman got killed is a plus.

No the death penalty does not exist in Australia.

Here's a link to the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment_in_Australia

No there's no concealed carry permits in Australia. Here's a link to the Wikipedia entry that details gun ownership laws in
Australia

We have a gunman loose in my area tonight. He killed six people and is believed to still be in the Pennsburg/East Greenville PA area. If he comes to my neighborhood tonight the dogs will alert on him. Not a good neighborhood for him as most neighbors are armed and dangerous.
