G'day,

John Heslinga emailed me a catalog of automotive air conditioning seals and o-rings for R-12 & R-134a from:

4 Seasons
1801 Waters Ridge Dr.
Lewisville, TX 75057
(800) 433-7508

The o-rings in their catalog are colored green and are HBNR.

Using the dimensions of the compressor o-ring groove provided by Espen Heitmann over in Norway:

OD: 1.080"
ID: 0.800"
Depth 0.114"

I found this part number:

P/N 24615
OD: Not provided in catalog. Calculated: 0.796 + 0.139 + 0.139 = 1.074"
ID: 0.796'
C/S: 0.139'

4 Seasons calls this o-ring: "GM A6 / DA6 / HR6 / V5 Service Valve O-Ring"

I called 4 Seasons Technical Support and told them I was looking for the o-rings on the back of an A-6 air conditioning compressor
from a 1975 Oldsmobile Toronado. The tech rep told that the o-ring above was correct, however, according to his data I needed one
24615 and one 24623.

P/N: 24623
OD: Not provided in catalog. Calculated: 0.862" + 0.103" + 0.103" = 1.068"
ID: 0.862
C/S: 0.103

4 Seasons calls this o-ring: "GM Switch Port O-Ring"

I can't see how this o-ring can work given a cross section of 0.103" when the groove is 0.114" deep.

I looked at Espen's photos again and to me it sure looks like both ports are the same. Espen can you verify both o-ring grooves are
the same please?

If you're interested you can click on the link below and do a search for P/N 24615 and P/N 24623

http://www.4s.com/

Then click on CATALOG - eCatalog - Part Number

Type 24615 in "Enter Part Number Here" click on Search

Details on this o-ring will appear.

Note that there is a "Where to Buy" link on the 4 Seasons website. I clicked on Parts Boss and found the 24615 O-rings for $0.81
each.

Yes they are identical, I would have bought the 24615 as it would fill out the groove better, I do not think I have ever seen a A6 with two different O-rings, those compressors are pretty much identical, some use a thermal limiter next to the hose connection, but beside that and the newer ones that use mm bolts the only differences are clutch and pulley's

Espen,

Thanks for confirming what I observed in your photos.

The guy I spoke to at 4 Seasons was looking at a reference material on a computer not an A-6 compressor!

Rob M.
