Theother day I did find a NOS water pump dirt cheap GM/Delco 231886 it is just over 5 1/2" and has a large 5" impeller.
From what I found out so is this for the old Olds 350 diesel but should fit my -73 455.

As the 350 diesel has a lower rpm band just as we have in the GMC with a larger impeller this could be (In my head ) a perfect fit or am I on the wrong track here ?

1973 23' # 1848 Sky Blue Glacier called Baby Blue and a 1973 26'-3 # 1460 Parrot green Seqouia Known as the Big Green, And sold my 1973 26'-2 # 581 White Canyon lands under the name Dobbelt trøbbel in Norway

The doc in this link specifically recommends against using the 231886.

Unknown if it would fit as the stock pump is a 4 1/4” diameter impeller. Here is some info on the pumps and possible reverse rotation pumps for those that want to use the serpentine belt setups.

Espen,

I would suggest purchasing a gasket for a 455 water pump and see if fits the pump you have found.

It appears that the 231886 was used on vehicles without A/C.
The table below shows one application for the Olds 455.

What's wrong with the standard pump? Spinning a low speed pump faster is not something you want to do.

Going to look at mine and compare it to this one tomorrow:
http://www.autozone.com/external-engine/water-pump/valucraft-reman-water-pump/198358_0_0/
Would like to carry a spare with me that I already know fits since there seem to be so many variations, and auto parts stores that can't look up parts for a GMC without jumping to the truck chassis.

Hi All

According to Rockauto there are two different pumps for the 455.
The Airtex part for a motor with A/C is AW1120, it is 5.95" mounting face to pulley face.
The Airtex part for a motor without A/C is AW 1100 it is 5.57" mounting face to pulley face.

I looked up the Delco 231886 it appears to cross to the AW 1100, if that is true the pump is about 3/8" too short..
