All,
Our son went to to Pahrump NV today to look at the coach he bought, a 76
EleganzaII. We were told the fuel pump was inop however he discovered the
fuel line from the pump to that carb is missing. Does anyone have the fuel
schematic diagram handy? The pump on the engine, brand new, has three
ports, the one that someone replaced has two.
Any thoughts?
There were manuals in that coach as I remember but any help will be welcome.
The engine does turn. The Onan does turn, but there was some smoke,
possibly electrical coming from somewhere as he was trying to start it.
He will join this group once we get it running and moved. I turned in the
TZE a while back.
I'm trying to diagnosis this from Fallbrook CA.

Some one may have been trying to modify the fuel pump setup using a 3-port pump to provide a return line to help with vapor lock issues. Jim Bounds mentions this in his Daily Pose on 10/16/2014 here: http://www.gmccoop.com/dailypose.htm Just scroll down to that date from top page the link takes you to.
The woman selling that coach said that it had an electric fuel pump installed at one time but Dennis Richardson (A GMC shop in Covina CA.) bypassed the electric pump due to some problems. So not too sure what happened but the fuel lines and pump was modified at one time. I looked at the coach when it was for sale and it appeared that the fuel lines from the tanks had been replaced at one time so they may be OK. The coach has been sitting for some time so the gas in the tanks is likely bad. When I started a coach that had been sitting I put in 10 gallons of fresh fuel and a double shot of Archoil AR6200 fuel conditioner and had no problems. Another method is to hook up a gas can to the fuel lines so you know you have fresh gas.
I might still have a stock fuel line somewhere left over from when I replaced it with an insulated one. However I just moved and things are still in a state of disarray for awhile. I looked a little with no luck but will try again Monday AM when I have some better light to work with. I have manuals and two coaches here that your son could look at if he needs to. I am in North Las Vegas about 7 miles west of Nellis. 760 221 5030

I do not know was what auto parts stores are available in Pahrump. I was only there once and not for long. It is a common pump. I have bought one from Auto Zone and also one at NAPA in the past. It was in stock at both stores. Get one for a 75 olds Toronado without AC.
If you want to use the one you have, simply install a hose onth 3rd post and block it off.

Evenin George,
He went out there today with a new fuel pump, but a new pump was already on
the engine. The old one was I the box on the dinette. When I was out there
I never looked. I'll pass the info to Lenny but they are headed here for
Thanksgiving.
He is in North Las Vegas, off of Decatur, north of the 215 kind of across
from COSTCO.

I looked for that darn fuel pump to carb line off & on today but with no luck so far. Have to go to an appt. for awhile now. Will look again later today if it is not to dark when I get home. Was just thinking again about the issue of checking the brakes on the GMC if he gets it running. There is a really long down-hill road between Pahrump and Las Vegas. My 23 foot coach really wanted to run away even in 2nd gear going down.
Your son is less than 4 miles north of me if he lives near that Costco. I am near Allen and West Lone Mt. road. He can call anytime to come look at my GMCs or use the manuals I have.

Well it's running now, just need to bring more gas out to it. The tank are empty but show 1/2 and full tank. I banged them a bit and nothing. I added about a gallon and got it to feed to the fuel pump. High varnish smell , figure 10 gallons and I can drive it to the gas station.
Then of course the brake pedal goes to the floor, popped the MC cap and the fwd reservoir is empty. What the the fwd part of the mc go to? I figure I will bleed all 6 and look for leaks, hopefully I will be able to drive it home after.

The front well goes to the rear brakes. If your immediate goal is to get
the coach home to actually do the work there -- fill the wells, fire up
the coach and see if you can get a pedal. I would not even try to use the
fuel tanks and delivery system. If it does fire up on fuel from those
tanks, chances of clogging the filters and having the coach shut down will
probably happen at the most critical place. Get a boat fuel tank and a
roll of 3/8" fuel hose. Connect the hose to the inlet on the mechanical
fuel pump, route the hose through the pass. slider window and on the boat
tank. Carry a filler tank to fill the boat tank as it is used up. Pump
the bulb to get fuel to the pump. Limp home 5 gallons at a time. I have
done this many times. Will be a bit of a hassle but the chance of getting
home in one piece is much better. Stop often and check your brake fluid.
If it goes down try and get a baseline on how much you are loosing and
gauge your checks and fill ups accordingly.
Recovering a coach, you do what you have to do. Key features must work to
accomplish your move. You have to be safe out there, a good pair of
goggles, a scarf and the wind in your face -- we're on a mission... And
know even if you make it without using any fluid, the system IS compromised
and you MUST follow though with that complete system renew right away. To
be honest, if the coach is anywhere close to home you may wanna it a bullet
and have it towed. Whatever is reasonable and safe should be the direction.
