Hi,

I am looking for a place/land/driveway to park and live in my 23 ft GMC in the Santa Cruz area....Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz, Capitola, Watsonville, Felton,...etc.

I am a clean, responsible male, don't smoke or do any drugs, pay on time, help with chores, can fix things, no pets, no drama, have references.

Looking for a place right away/ASAP.

I can pay rent or exchange some or all of the rent for help around the place.

Please let me know what you have, where/which area and what you need in rent or labor (Hrs per month)...etc. Photos would be great too.

Wifi would be nice. And I am working on getting solar panels so meanwhile electricity would be great too.

Thank you so much.

I suggest checking craigslist. Maybe rent a room with a place to park your RV outside? there are also funky cabins in the mountains
where you might be able to park.
But how about this one:

Thank you Karen.

Just saw your reply.

The link to the CL posting is expired.

I did check as well as post on CL.

The prices I got were crazy with couple of free ones in exchange for work but they are way too far from everything.

Otherwise the average I got was $500-600 a month.

Which to my thinking is the same as renting a room. Problem is there are not many places with enough space to park this RV. I asked and most didn't even bother to reply.

I considered parking on the street and moving around every couple of days.

Since I was pressured for time, I rented a space next to a house (in gated yard) close to downtown, in a nice area. For $500 a month, including all utilities..water, sewage, wifi, cable tv, trash, electricity.

I am still having second thoughts and feel this is a lot of money for an empty parking space & wonder if I had made a mistake and maybe should've tried my chances with street parking as I've seen several RV's parked on the streets so far.

Your thoughts or experiences with this?

Are you in the Bay Area ?

Thanks,
AJ

Wal-Mart company policy allows you to spend the night on their lots. Go to
work somewhere local then spend the night at Wal-Mart. Flying J also has
parking for Eva. Yes temporary but better then street parking which many
communities frown on. Sammy Williams

I think if you returned to the same Walmart every night it would not be long before they chased you out. That is taking advantage of a courtesy they supply.

I did run into a few campers one time in Fernley, NV. They were seasonal temporary workers working for Amazon just down the street. They were parking at Amazon during their work shift and parking in a lot across the street from and owned by Walmart in their off shifts. Walmart did not mind it because it was not their main parking area. They also allowed some semi trucks to park there.

While it was free, it obviously also had no shore power or other facilities.

Considering all the utilities you're getting with a fenced area providing
some security, and avoiding the hassle of daily movement to a new, possibly
illegal location, $500 may be a bargain. Somewhere, somehow, you've got to
have access to power, water, sewer, & trash every few days, at least.

No reason you can't stay there while continuing to look for a better
bargain.

We have about 3 RV's roving the parking lots in our city. I see them all over, I think they got ran out of walmart, because they are rarely there.

if that price includes those utility's, I think you got a bargain... I would think those utilities you describe are worth 1/2 that rent a month. I am pretty sure for my house It adds up $400+ a month in utilities, if you look at internet, garbage, water, sewer, gas and electric. I know if I would want a place in town, just to store my GMC I would be paying $35-40 a month, to park it in a fence with a dozen other RV's. much less, have it parked and usable.

Is your long-term goal to live for free somewhere in your RV? Is that expectation reasonable?

the place you ended up may the one I posted the link to; it was for a secure spot with full hookups.
Sounds like a bargain to me. Full hookups, security, no hassle about having to move all the time, plus
you have your own private space, not just a room in a shared house with who knows what for room-mates.
Compare what you're paying to the rates for any of the campgrounds in the area and you're getting an extremely good deal.
The Bay Area is an expensive place to live, period. If you want cheap living, it's simply not happening
in a major metro area with a tight housing supply like this one.

While many Walmarts, etc, allow overnight parking, they absolutely do not in the Bay Area.
If they did, they'd quickly be overwhelmed by the demand.
