Help! Ok, the onan (6kw) has power out of the main feed (into the
breaker) but no power going into the coach. We swapped out the breaker
thinking that could be the problem, but no luck. What's the best way
to troubleshoot this?
The shore power works fine.
Thanks,
Chris Herron

Matt, thanks for the reply. The issue is with the feed. We were taking the readings directly at the generator. But yes, we also made sure the plugs were swapped out. It had been working fine until a couple of weeks ago.

Chris,
Good start, I occurred to me just after I send that there have been a number of circuit breaker failures. This is the breaker that is right on the generator frame. There is no exact replacement that I know of, but JimK has something that fits.
So, if you have voltage out of the machine and nothing at the receptacle, that would be it.
I am told that they can fail (have not seen) so that they physically behave like they are working, but there is no contact closure to send the power along.

Matt,
I got a used replacement breaker from Jim Bounds and that didn't solve it. There's 120 at the source and we bypassed the breaker this evening and still no power to the coach.

Since you have power at both sides of the generators circuit breaker the problem most likely is a bad or broken connection behind the generator between the generator breaker and the metal flex line that goes into the coach

Chris,
In Avions there is a junction box on top of the Onan enclosure under the passenger side bed. I have NO idea if your 73 Sequoia is
wired the same. When Double Trouble lost Onan power I wound up having to repair one of the connections that had fried.
Here's a link to the photos:

My coach has an automatic switch, but I believe standard coaches were wired such that you move a plug from one socket to another if you had shore vs ONAN power.
Could it be as simple as that?

When at the GMCMI convention in Montgomery, TX someone asked me to look at their Onan as it was exibiting the same symptoms that you have. I removed the cover from the breaker box at the top of the Onan and found voltage on both sides of the breaker showing that the breaker was good. However o found that there was no voltage at the receptacle inside the cord box. I looked behind the Onan and found that a plastic connector was broken where the wires lay on the tray below and behind the Onan. I used a clamp on connector with rubber tape to connect the wires and it fixed the problem.

Yes.
The shore power cord is plugged into a receptical in the cord compartment when you want Onan power. The Onan is connected to that receptical.

Does the coach work on shore power?

The reason I asked is my Royale has an "either/or breaker setup. The Onan is hardwired to the coach. Turning on the shore power breaker turns off the Onan breaker and vice versa. If the shore power breaker is on and the Onan is running, there is no power to the coach.

Chris,
Look in the junction box located in the front of the utilities compartment.
I had a loose connection in there that caused this same problem.
