I have been running one Dometic Penguin 13,500 unit for a while now. I bought a second one and I am considering putting it in place of the roof vent forward of the existing a/c unit. I would like to get opinions on this. I don't understand why second air units are put in the bedroom. It seems to me the noise might interfere with sleeping, and in my case I would have to cut the opening. We use our GMC as a hang out at autocross events, and having two in the front might cool the crowd off better. Any thoughts?

Leifbert,

First, welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.

The reasons for the second A/C being aft are simple. If you have noticed, it is difficult to circulate air down the hallway. If you may almost noticed that when many of the units are on low cool, the white noise is easy to sleep under.

You may also have a bit of a time pulling power to that location. I don't believe any was done during the build and you won't be able to pull from the existing as the load will be too high.

How long have you owned your coach?

I strongly suggest that you build a sigfile like most of us have. It helps everybody.

Matt

I added a second AC unit as I can't stand anything blowing on me nor the noise of the Fan I installed The 2nd unit in the front where it does great job
here in the Texas heat and while going to events. The center Unit does a great Job at nite keeping the Bedroom
cool without the noise and direct Air blowing on Me we used fish tape to get the wire to the outside Wall and in to the
closet and then into the Electric panel My Friend who helped Me and I are both cable Guys and are used to fishing wires into tough spots

If you have kids a dog or another couple staying overnite and you section off the sleeping areas you won't get much cooling to the rear bedroom. The folks in front will need blankets. As far as noise my wife always slept better with a little air noise and movement (low position).

I have been considering adding a second unit myself. I replaced my old Dometic Penguin unit with a 15K BTU Atwood Heat-Pump unit last spring hoping that the extra capacity would do a better job cooling however the best it will do in 105 direct sunlight is bring it coach down to about 90. I have a Fantastic Fan in the bedroom and wonder if my 1973 Canyon Lands already has wiring for a second AC in the rear? Any one know? My paint scheme does not help the heat build up either. The sides above the belt line are dark green. However the roof is white.

My early '74 did not come with the rear a/c. It was added later. The 120V wiring was not installed at the facotry and was added later when the A/C was installed.
