Hello all,



When looking around at coaches for sale, is there an easy way to tell if a
GMC has a Manny Tranny installed? In other words, does he do anything
externally that would make one of his transmissions identifiable?

There was nothing I noticed on mine. I suggest you call Manny. He would be the one to know for sure.

Manny uses stainless steel bolts on his rebuilds.

You definitely CANNOT go by the chain covers being powder coated. Not one
of the 5 he built here last year had that feature, and I doubt the
logistics in Orlando allow him to do it there either.

ALL stainless steel bolts is the best clue.

Just goes to say there really is not much on the outside that really identifies his transmission.

In 2011 when he did mine. He was pretty proud that he got the covers coated. He only used the stainless fasteners inside the tranny at that time too. Therefore he must have run out and not done any more. (He had a pretty good supply at the time)
I suspect somone should ask him to reply directly.

(Something like "directly from the horse's mouth." Wink )

But
He knows the serial numbers of every tranny he has rebuilt..
Some vendors are trying to get manny to warranty their junk rebuilds
Only manny builds or buys the correct parts

Mine and the two others he built at the same time, had the identified flange bolts that were not stainless.

(I was fortunate enough to be with him when he was doing the rebuilds. It really added to my knowledge of how the 425 was put together. )

I presume you're talking about the SS versions. When I asked Manny "Why
SS?", his reply was that he started using them early on and now it's his
trademark so he can't quit. But if it came to "fix it without SS" or
"don't fix it", he'd probably fix it.

I believe Manny uses flange bolts whereas the factory did not.

I only have the experience of 1 (one) time so anything goes with the way Manny does things I Guess. (Im glad to say, I've only had to buy one tranny) Here are some pictures or what I got in 2011. Maybe they will help someone.
