All I seem to find in used wheels are black or grey and I have no confidence any vinyl paint will hold up in such an application. Did they not make any in tan or brown?

Mine is TAN.... Very Happy

Why not try Plasti DIP? Spray plastic, ( DipYourcar(dot)Com )heck they dip tool handles in it, isn't your steering wheel a large HANDLE? Worth a try and if you don'tlike it, you can take it off.

If you are looking at GM trucks for donor wheels, they were only in black or gray until air bags came along, when tan was added, but you don't want the airbag. Some of the cars had other colors available pre-airbag.

We got a nice tan Olds Cutlass steering wheel with a soft rim on eBay. It has two drooped aluminum spokes, provides for a much improved visibility to the gauges and instrument panel and looks like it belongs.

It looks good and is a bolt-on. It took a while for an excellent one to come up for bid. We got the idea from another GMCer.

Send an email and we will send you a photo.

I think that is what Mary got from Paul Smith. The only trick was the horn contact and that isn't all that tough if you look at things carefully enough. She likes it a lot.

We made certain to get a steering wheel complete with horn button, contact, spring and a bit of the horn wire.

I don't remember it being anything special to get it on and working. Getting a wheel with a complete horn button assembly down to the wire was a trick, though. I do remember the seller being cooperative.

Over the years of rebuilding dashes, I refinish the steering column and the
front edge of the dash where the defrost vents-- and BTW most of the cracks
reside in satin black. Now installing a black leather steering wheel goes
together and balances well. Black shows dirt and damage less-- yes it gets
hot in the sun. We offer 2 steering wheels in black only-- as Henry Ford
said-- you can have any color as long as it's black. Rather than maing the
dash all 1 color, break it up a bit with contrasts-- black trim and accents
and a black steering wheel is a good accent...
