On a short weekend jaunt this past weekend I noticed the left turn signal decided to go on vacation. The mirror has a light that would flash but neither the front or rear lights worked. I'm assuming there must be a splice where the mirrors were connected and it's gone away but haven't located the splice yet. Has anyone experienced a similar issue or may suggest a different approach?
Thanks,Hal

Do you have a copy of the GMC wiring diagram? Tracing wires is always fun. If installer used the "crimp on" type of wire connectors that cut the insulation and grip the wire, that is the most logical fault location. I personally hate this type of connector.
Do the emergency flashers flash all the lights? Quick test to find a defective lamp. Did you check both the flasher and the fuses? Start with the easy answers first.
Wish that I could help further.

Re: Turn signal issue
Hal,
When I started planning to put turn lights on the mirrors, I found the conductors available but under the instrument panel and out at the front marker lights. But, in your case, I would (as Tom suggested) do the 4-Way test first. If any are out, check the bulbs first. I am forever cleaning and greasing mine to keep them working.
It is unlikely the a Scotchlok (cheap connector you crush over a wire) would cause the problem you are seeing. But, if you find any, take the time to re-do the job right.

Thanks guys, I've done the basic checks already, fuse, flasher, lamps. I was just hoping there might be a common issue that crops up on these things that might be an issue. I also hate the scotch lock taps and almost never use them but it seems the connector would have had to cut the wire in half to cause the problem. It's just a matter of finding the splice at this time I'm afraid. Guess I'll be pulling the dash apart earlier than expected....

Corrosion on the bulb and or sockets or bad grounds at the lamps would be my first n second checks. Fuse ok cause the one in the mirror would not work otherwise.

Exercise that emergency flasher switch a few times to make sure that is not the problem. BTDT on many vehicles that didn't have the 40 year old grease in the switch, and sometimes a touch of WD-40 can re-liquify that grease and allow the contacts to contact.
