Time to replace the exhaust in the coach before it falls off.

Going with a 3" pipe but the question is which type/brand of muffler or
mufflers to use?

Thanks,

You need to decide first whether you want 2 front mufflers or one rear muffler. Whichever system you go with, make sure you install a heat shield above the muffler. Dan burned a hole in the floor with a 2 muffler system and no heat shield. Another GMCer burned a coach to the ground with a rear muffler installation and no heat shield. With the 3" system you will also have to install new muffler bearings. That is those 3" id round silicone pipe mounts. Jim K. has them.

I would also install the heat shields between the pipe and the gas tanks. Again Jim K.

Come to think of it, Jim K. has all of the pieces that you need (mufflers, pipes, clamps, etc.). You might save time and effort just order the whole system for him. A few years back I watched 2 guys install the complete Jim K. system on a GMC on a hoist is less than 1 hour. No welding required.

If you don't buy one of JimK's bolt in kit but choose to do it yourself then check out Emery's 3" exhaust system.

I used this and modified it by transverse mounting the muffler at the rear of the coach.

They both use the Flowmaster 70 series muffler.

Unless you enjoy regular exhaust "maintenance I would weld the system in as many locations as is practical to allow removal when needed for other repairs. Clamped joints are more likely to leak or come apart than welded. also flex joints between the manifolds and the rest if the system can help prevent future leaks from drivetrain movement and thermal expansion.

I used a single spin-tech muffler in the front location. Two in,one out. Flows well and not too noisy in the cockpit.

Use the wide exhaust band clamps instead of the normal U shaped muffler clamp. Bands do not crush the fittings and can be removed without cutting.

I did my own exhaust system 8 yrs ago. Did a single rear muffler...70 series Flowmaster. If I had it to do again knowing what I know now and given complete bolt-in systems that are available, now I'd buy a complete bolt-up system from Jimmy K and be done with it. Lots of work and hassle trying to reinvent the wheel. JWID

Thanks for all the input. No hoist here. The guy in town has done several
GMCs' and is very familiar with the coaches. Should have it back by
Saturday.
