Finally getting around to painting the front ceiling cap after twenty years. Is it possible to remove cap without taking ceiling panels, and cabinets, down? I guess I could spray in place with a lot of masking. any suggestions from those that have been though this process. Thanks for amazing guidance over the years.

I took ours out without removing cabinets or headliner. I did have to take off speakers, sun visors and rear view mirrors. Sad truth is I have not put it back in yet.
If I had to do it again, I would have painted it in place.

Did mine a couple of years ago the hardest part is removing the sun visors extremely fine threads and it seems like they go forever, just keep Turing they will come out. Used Krylon fusion off white made a huge difference much brighter in front now. While it is out install led running lites and seal the water leaks. I added reflective bubble insulation reduced some of the heat gain/loss

My headliner is non stock so I don't know if it would come out with a stock headliner or not. Mine would not but my headliner comes a couple inches further forward.
You will certainly have an easier time fixing cracks and painting it if you take it out.
Take the speaker and light panels out, and unscrew the visors. As mentioned it is a pain and will take a while. Once they are out, unscrew the screws that hold it into the header and it will drop down in the front and you can pull it forward and down. Two people would be best as I expect it could be cracked if handled roughly.
Good luck.
