To follw up on all that, still the inverter generators are struggling to come up to a minimum standard of running 1 roof ac and a power converter.  You must be able to do at least that to be a viable supply.  1 Honda eu2000 will not do it, 2 will but that sounds like a buc ket of pissed off bees!  The 3000 watt and above units will not fit in the hole without hacking it up destroying themechanical integrity of the unit not to mention any warranty on it .

I have not yet given up on the Dometic 3000 watt unit but it is challenging us.

I still gotta tell ya everyone I know loves the option of the reworking the EV-6010 & 4010 water cooled units.  Plenty of parts and service support and man do they run well not to mention they fit really nice in our coaches.  There is an Onan that will also fit, some have gone than way.

Which ever way you go you need a minimum of 3000 watts at ac compressor startup and don't be shocked if the inverter style 3000 watt unit to big badly when they try and spool up an old style compressor. Roof ac unit.  Wish I could say more than this....

Subject: Re: [GMCnet] GENERATOR REPLACEMENT

At least one person has purchased a "run-of-the-mill" generator set, disassembled it into its major components and reassembled it into the generator
compartment.  Most of the off the shelf gensets (as you see at the big box stores} are air cooled and may not be electric start.
Jim Bounds is doing some work with using the small inverter types that are made by Honda, Yamaha and others.  I've even seen them at Harbor Freight.
You might read his posting on his web site about his luck.  He did a slide out with 2 of the small Hondas.  No idea if he is still chasing that dream.
It would be nice because their price point is low, and they are everywhere.
Honda ev6010s are readily available and parts, expensive as they are, are easily obtained.  Major re-builder in Florida has them.  He is where Jim
Bounds gets his for customer installations.  He repaired two for me.
