This will be the 10th GMCMI convention that I've attended. What makes this one different for me is that I arrived on the first day of the Pre-Convention days. Normally I arrive well after the start because I usually have to fix or finish something in the coach which makes me late (new engine install, tank-less water heater, fuel injection etc.).

I decided to come early this time (even though I had last minute repairs to make) and got to the fair grounds only a few hours after the official Wednesday 1:00 Pre-Convention arrival time and found that 20-30 GMCs had already arrived ahead of me. The convention doesn't start until Friday. Wow what dedication.

The location is idea for people that like to walk. There is a park, with a small zoo and walking trails across the street, downtown Chippewa Falls and the Leinenkugles Brewery are just a few blocks away.

I'm going to try and take photos and post them to my website. I have already started an album, but when I was taking photos, most people were in their coach (it was raining) or out to dinner so I don't have many pics of people. I'll try to get more tomorrow and the next days.

If the early turnout is any indication of the number of coaches that will make it, it should be a good rally. The weather is supposed to be almost 80s and sunny the new few days.

Nice pics, Richard!

I noticed a red Ford Flex in one of the pics. Was that being used as a towd? It seems a bit heavy for that duty. Just curious, as wife Judy and I have a 2012 Flex with Eco-Boost turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. I never considered using it as a towd. I consider our 2002 4WD Ford Explorer as being overweight, too!

No, the couple that Flex belongs to lives fairly close to Chippewa, so they drove both the GMC and the Flex to the rally to use in carting people and "stuff" around for use at the Convention. Brand new car...a nice one though.

Yes, they are very nice. We drove our Flex to Dothan in 2013 after our coach cratered just 55 miles from home.

Most of the GMCers have arrived by today. There are GMCs parked in every nook and cranny of the fair grounds. Tomorrow the schedule starts in earnest.

As it turns our there is plenty of things to do in town, besides the stuff going on in the convention. There is the park/zoo across the street, the brewery and several museums. My favorite so far is the Chippewa Falls Museum of Industry & Technology, that features several rooms filled with Cray Super Computers. Cray Inc. was located in Chippewa Falls.

I have over 100 pictures on line now with lots more to come during the coming days.

Thanks, Chuck. It's good to see those friendly faces and what looks like
nice weather. I even noticed some leaves turning in one pic. Hi, Kat.

Thought someone in the group had done a ton of custom fiberglass work to a GMC. Looks like Newmar had a GMC fan in their new models department back in 2000.

Aluminum frame body with aluminum and fiberglass sheet, car style chassis, 9' height...

That floorplan looks familiar now, doesn't it?

76 Birchaven - "Wicked Mistress" - New engine, trans, alum radiator, brakes, Sully airbags, fuel lines, seats, adult beverage center... those Coachmen guys were really thinking about us second hand owners by including that beverage center... Columbia, SC.

I didn't notice before, but even the steering wheel is the low spoke GM we use...LOL

Looks like that was a one year model. In 2002, they dropped the swoopy windows in favor of generic replacements - no wonder it was gone in '03.

Actually, the history on the New Aire is interesting. It was Newmar's first
attempt at assembling their own chassis, etc. The rear suspension is based
on that used by Dunlop across the pond on may vehicles except that the drive
wheels are the front rear. According to then president of the company, when
I talked to him in June of this year, they had several complaints on some
things. They recalled about 2/3 of the total build of less than 45 to rework
things on the suspension and some other, minor detail (such as removing a
ramp to the bedroom and putting in steps). It wasn't the recall that stopped
production. It was that they thought it would sell and didn't. The biggest
complaint was "no slid out." Darn shame. It is a logical design.

As to the floor plan, there ain't much you can do with 29 feet. We've had
two DPs that are nearly identical - just used up more room with larger bath
area and queen bed with space to walk around in the rear. Gemini did what
the industry was doing at the time with the exception of the bunk bed from
the couch. Now, that was unique.

In Chippewa Falls, too

I posted quite a few more photos. They are not in any real order and the album software doesn't allow you to do much except view the photos in sequence. Sorry about that.

Today we had omelets by Ken Fry and his "friends". They were pretty good actually. Also today was an open house where the public was invited. It looked like there was quite a turn out from the people in town (population of 12,000).

I've enjoyed the rally so far and I think everyone else is having a good time as well.

Regarding the NewAire. It first appeared in Iowa back in 2007. The owners had just purchased it and drove to the rally. Here a link to some photos I took of it that year:

OK we are end of the GMCMI Fall Rally. Tomorrow most of the group will be pulling out. I was here for 8 days and I had a very good time. The town of Chippewa Falls was great. I did a lot of walking (51 miles according to my Fitbit) and got to know the fairgrounds, park and zoo across the street as well at the town of 12,000 pretty well. I am not looking forward to leaving.

I actually won some prizes (a first for me). A buck for sitting in the first row of a meeting, 2 bottles of mustard in the coffee hour prizes and a 10 blade nylon fan (from the raffle). I was less than 5 numbers away from the grand prize of $1,000. Dang! But I didn't walk away empty handed.

I think I made the final installment to the album I made of the convention tonight. Some people might find it interesting.
