I wonder if a small 5 watt solar panel would keep the toad batteries happy?

Jay,

First - You highjacked a thread so a lot of the readers will never read your question.
Second - If you mean sitting still - Yes
- If you mean as a towd and running the brakes - No Chance.

Matt

Jay,
I used to tow a Honda FIT which had a battery to size of a large motorcycle and it would get run down by my braking system. My previous Toad was a Chevy Tracker and it also was hard on the battery when towing all day long and using the brakes in the mountains. The second year towing the FIT I installed a TOAD-CHARGE system to charge the little battery going down the road. This system really works and I moved it to the new Honda CR-V. I am also adding a vacuum pump to enhance the braking system.

To buy just the unit itself which I did as they wanted way too much for the wiring and stuff see below or you can go down to parts and accessories and look at Charge controller alone.

The way I did my toad charge system was to connect a 20 amp circuit breaker at the GMC isolator (engine battery) using #14 wire ran it to the toad battery with another 20amp circuit breaker at the toad battery problem solved.

Hijacked?
Didn't mean to offend the thread police.

Don't be offended. Hijacked is just the term used to describe when a thread about one topic goes off on a tangent or ends up on another topic altogether. It's a universal term...
