My family seems to like the idea of taking a trip, but the repositioning back to Phoenix holds no appeal. How practical do you think it would be to one-way the coach out of AZ to somewhere else (Pac NW, Midwest, etc.) and store it there for a period of time until returning to drive it somewhere else and store it there? I know I lose the ability to perform maintenance on it to some extent, but when it gets back to AZ, it is likely to do fewer longer trips.

I would imagine this type of trip would start in the spring before it begins to heat up again here in AZ.

Hi Randy

We did that a few years ago travelling from Montreal to Florida and storing it for a few months while we were in Europe, then flying back to Florida to drive to California to store again for a few months before driving back to Montreal the cost works out to about the same as returning to home port for each trip. It just allows for a little less driving. Airfare storage costs vs gas and time your choice.

Randy,
Good idea! However, things go bad when vehicles sit in storage. So you have to be prepared to deal with unknown issues-dead batteries, flat tires, new leaks, vandalism- when you return for successive legs of the journey.

I have enjoyed the cross country trips(vacations for me) that I have taken to re-position other owner's coaches. Especially since I was only driving one way and flying on the return.

To combine these two ideas maybe you could take your coach to wherever and then arrange for another GMC'er to store it and or move it on to another location where you could pick it up on your next vacation.

I would love to tour the East Coast in my GMC but I don't want to make the 6000 mile round trip to get there.

I have done house swaps with families from the UK.

Perhaps a GMC Coach Swap could be arranged. You could go to Maine or Washington in the summer/fall and your coach swapping partner can visit Arizona in the winter/spring.

Would be worthwhile to pursue the swap idea to see if there other GMCers that would be interested.

Airfare is not a problem for Randy. His office is on the other side of that little door in the front of an A320.

Randy, you may want to ping some blacklisters in the area you want to store the coach. They will either point you to where they store them, (and perhaps offer to keep an eye on it for you) or flat out let you store it at their place.

You'd be surprised.

It's a good idea. We want to store our rig somewhere up on the RIM over the summer.
