Thank you.

We have looked at 640-1225 before here on the GMCNet and they are not currently on the napaonline.com site as an available part. The rear drums on the GMC are a special and available from Jim K or Cinnabar. I can call my local NAPA guy tomorrow and see if they show up on the direct computer and see what info he can did up.

Les,
To me they look like the 66 Toro front drum (with diff bolt pattern and maybe the bore), the front drums and they where wider then the rear and they used wider shoes also.
I wander if GM started the coach with 3" wide shoes and then felt they where not needed, but kept the same drum.
IMO
Les Burt[1 wrote on Sun, 14 September 2014 23:15]Aren't the rear drums just 66-77 Toronado rear 11x2 drums with the center &
bolt holes modified to fit the GMCMH rear hubs? Photos sure look similar.

I think the GMC always used the narrower shoe setup. Some have installed the wider shoes and hardware since the original drum will accommodate them. IIRC the wider shoes come from the B car wagon rears.

OOPs--sorry. I'm referring to the GM full size station wagons Impala, Caprice, Olds 88, etc before the downsizing in 1977. They had a bigger and wider axles than passenger cars and had specific brakes.

G'day,
This appears to be a drum can be made to fit a GMC.
HOWEVER, be careful if you order these, I have seen photos of some on the Internet that are smooth on the exterior surface and don't
have the "ribs" ours have.
The other problem with these drums is that the "only differences" are going to have to be addressed and that is going to cost money
unless of course you have a lathe with a chuck that can grip the 11.00 ID to enable you to machine out the hub center to 4.567
inches and the skill to convert the 5 mounting holes to 8 and locate them correctly.
If you have to have a machine shop do it I would suggest you visit that shop and get a written quote to do the work or you may wind
up paying more for them then you could have purchased them from a GMC vendor for!

Harry,
Came across this site that has info on the drums (1966 toro front drums), the center bore size(register) and the 5 bolt are the only
differences to GMC MH rear drums.

According to the parts listings referred to here, the 66 toro front drums are the same p/n as the rear drums used on eldos up to 75 and toros up to 78. Even though they are the same p/n, asking for 66 toro drums rather than 78 toro drums might result in differing results depending on where/who you ask.
My uncle has had a late 60's toro rear axle sitting in his junk pile for years and i've eyeballed it many times telling myself that i should compare the drums to those on my coach. Just been too lazy to actually do it as I haven't needed a drum yet. The Toro axle looks like it would make a nice trailer axle.
