Life is full of compromises and so are our GMCs. There is just so much you can do in 26'. The original designs were 22 and 24'. After all the analysis the designers settled on 23 and 26'. The coaches that did incorporate a longer in-line bed had to give up something. On our 78 Royale the whole rear lounge makes into a larger than king sized bed. But, there is room up front for only a dinette and a kitchen, no couch, so there is limited socialization space. And, with the kitchen counter up against the drivers seat it is hard to rotate. In our case, the dinette cushions are puffy leather and they also make the passenger seat hard to rotate so the only place to sit up front is either at the dinette or on the step. In our 77 Clasco (standard GM floor plan) there is great socialization space up front but the trade off is the climb over bed in back. So, we all get to pick the compromise we cherish.,...

All of that work and somehow we still ended up with beds that require you to climb over someone else to go to the bathroom! I will
forever think of this as the single biggest living area flaw in the GMC.
