Hello,

I am about to go get some golf cart batteries for house side of the coach. Do these provide the current to start the onan? I have not had house batteries installed yet, when I energize the 12volt house system and press start on the onan all I get is a click.

Shouldn't take much, I started mine with a lawnmower battery to see if it ran when I bought the coach.

Yes on a 78 the house batteries start the onan. No battery, no start. The house system energized from the converter will not do it.

Golf cart batteries will start it easily where you could run into a problem would be if the batteries were depleted from dry camping. In this case you would need to use the battery boost switch while cranking the Onan. The worst case scenario would be cranking it use boost with the Motorhome engine running.
