Had my engine rebuilt and they installed a RS6469 Water Temp Sender as suggested in the GMC MH Intl. Parts Exchange Index.
My Temp Gsuge just moves slightly above cold and just sits there. No variation with engine heat.
Had the Temp Gauge tested and it tested good.
Purchased and istalled another RS6469 from NAPA but no change.
Am I using the correct sender or is there another sender I should be using?
Engine is a 455 Jasper.
I hate to run without a working temp gauge.

Any suggestions?

Make sure the sender is installed in a place that will not retain an air pocket. It must have constant liquid contact to read the coolant temperature.

And make sure it is grounded. Check that by grounding the body of the sensor and watch for a difference in the gauge reading. Teflon tape has the possibility of insulating it from ground, especially if there is a lot of it wrapped on the threads.

I removed the "Christmas Tree" (I forget the real name but the multi-port vacuum thing on the intake manifold) and installed an analog temperature gauge. So now instead of guessing what "1/3 of the way between H and C" means I actually know the engine temperature! Also, as was mentioned before, your thermostat might be stuck open (or absent). Another check might be does your fan ever engage?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I removed the tape (first thing I thought of) - No change.
Air bubble a possibility...I check that.
I'll try the boiling water.
If no luck, I'll research putting in a different type gauge.

Thanks again....

Since this is an engine installation, Check for the proper grounds. I mean:

1. Is the engine battery negative connected directly to the engine block.

2. Is there a wire from the negative terminal of the engine battery to the aluminum plate that has the isolator mounted on it?

3. Is there a wire from the aluminum plate in item #2 to the aluminum dash piece that has the temperature gage mounted in it.

I'm guessing that they or you before the engine installation had a back circuit through the grounding strap on the back of the transmission and that circuit may not be connected or working any more.
